i know this thread is probably in the wrong spot but i cant post anywere else but here....i recently got a stock 20g turbo off a evo8 and had a few qustions on install...will this require the same install kit a 16g turbo...i ask cause im runing a fmic and as far as i know i think i only need the ss oil & water lines.any help would be great i want to get the turbo on asap
 
i didnt even think about that....the guy im gettng it off of has a evo8....idk if he ever had it on his car or just something he's selling...its a tdo5 20g

are there any 20g's that fit our cars...the last thing i want is to actually go pick it up and find out it facing the wrong directions like a evo 4 and up turbo's

It's either an aftermarket 20G for an Evo VIII, or it's the stock Evo VIII 16G turbo.

There aren't any install kits for such a turbo because....are you ready for this...

Evo VIII and IX turbos cannot fit a DSM without extensive, costly modification and fabrication....at which point the "deal" of getting a cheap upgrade is offset by the pain-in-the-ass of installing it.

This has been discussed many, many times.

evo x's use a twin scroll 20g stock and evo turbos do work on our cars evo 1-3 work with no modifications necessary and 4-10 with modifications needed.


Evo X's do not come with 20g turbo's, I know because I owned one. You are right thought, it is a twin scroll with a 12cm turbine housing. However, it has a 15g comp wheel. I maxed mine out at 41lbs/min of airflow at about 28psi.

Wrong, it's not considered a 15G. A 15G is a TD04H compressor.

I bought one of these wheels to see what it is exactly....the inducer is slightly smaller than a Big 16G, sort-of halfway between a Small 16G and Big 16G inducer. The exducer is the same as an Evo III 16G, and the blades are thin like an Evo III 16G.

Basically the Evo X turbo is a twin-scroll Evo III 16G with a slightly smaller inducer, hence the reason you saw 41 lb/min. A 15G compressor would never generate near that much airflow.
 
TD05H-152G6....I don't really see "15G" singled out anywhere in that part number.

I was also initially told the turbo was a 15G, so maybe there are 15G versions of this out there....like those used on the Lancer Ralliart.


*Edit*...I just found where the Ralliart used a TD04HL-15T-7cm.
 
Someone should make a tubular manifold and tubular O2 housing to make the Evo X turbo bolt up, but only if they can do it smart and keep 1&4 and 2&3 separate.

You could buy a new 20G from FP for $550 and drop it into an Evo X turbine housing, then use this manifold that isn't available yet to have a new TWIN-SCROLL TD05H 20G on your DSM for $1000 or less.
 
I could see cutting apart a few cheap ebay tubular manifolds to make a final product to not be overly expensive for a DIYer. That's an awesome idea with the 20g into the EvoX housing.
