I tried going on COMETIC's website (http://www.cometic.com/index.htm) and looking for a partnumber for the G4CS block I'm building. The only thing they have listed in their catalog is:

GALANT, EXPO, SPACE WAGON 1993-96 / 4G64K 2.4 LITER / 88MM/ COPPER / C4213-50

I'm assuming this gasket won't hold up to boost very well? I ordered the Wiseco 2.4L .020 9:1 pistons (isn't the size of these pistons 87mm and not 88mm like they have listed?). I'm wondering what gaskets other people have ran without any problems on 24-28psi of boost. I'll be using my To4b with this until I get out of being broke and can buy the T4. I'll be using arp's with this so just as long as it can take the punishment. I'm having the block decked as well as the head, so MLS or standard. Just want some opinions on what others have used and their success rate.

Thanks,

Ah thanks. I just read on a previous post to use the 4G63 87mm part number on Cometics site. Others searching might find it helpful so:

Part Number: C4235-051
Description : 87MM MLS .051 List Price 83.95

I'm assuming this will work with .020 over pistons? I did another search and it doesn't look like anyone is using any other type of head gasket. Maybe because they only offer it as a Cometic or Mitsu...You have any problems with yours? I'm thinking of using copper spray on both sides of the MLS just to make sure it seals.

Thats what I did for my 2.4L. Copper spray both sides...works really well. I went through
race engineering to get all of my 2.4 stuff, except for the cam gears...went through slowboyracing

Im running the Cometic HP (high pressure) 87mm .054" thick Part # - C4235HP

One of the dsmtuners sponsors keeps them instock w/free shipping. PM me if you need more info.

And yes copper spray is your friend :thumb:

Good post, I found exactly what I was looking for. Looks like Im going Cometic.

Who here has dyno or track results with the 2.4. Im curious what the torque curve looks like and what ET's you AWD guys are running.

I dropped in a 2.4L 4G64 bottom end
On the stock head and cams...377.7whp 335.9torque. A/F ration was 9:1...on 18psi, pump gas. I wanted to turn up the boost...but we ran out of time on the dyno.

Mods list during last dyno run posted above.

2.4L 4g64 Block and crank. Wiseco 8.5:1 pistons, eagle rods
Turbonetics 60-1, mani, Waste Gate @18psi...not nearly what I was shooting for
Walbro 255, 1,000cc injectors, SAFC, SX FPR
Cometic HG
Spearco FMIC, 2.5" piping
3" Turbo back
MSD DIS 2, 8mm wires, NGKs
2g maf + K&N
Removed AC, PS, Balance Shafts
MSD sticker...40+whp

what kind of rpm's did your 2.4 make peak power at with the stock head and cams? 6k? 6.5k?

Cometic is nice because you can get a proper thickness gasket to match the piston to head clearance you desire. Every block is different due to decking and varied piston install height, so there's no right gasket for everyone.

Or if your less particular you can just throw one of whatever on, and probably notice no real difference. :p I paid attention on mine, and I'd like to think it made a difference, but who knows.

Due to the size of the bore on a 2.4 you don’t have too many options out there. Cometic is a good choice especially if you go with the HP one. However I believe it’s not a good idea to use copper spray since there is a Viton coating on them to help seal minor surface imperfections.
Also the thickness issue mentioned by sunflashx (good thinking BTW) is a great thing and very needed.

I got a cometic hp,had some sealing issues at first, but im pretty sure there all worked out now.I pulled the head off and put some copper spray on it and it fixed the problem so far.Im most likly gonna get another hp and redue the whole thing again, since when i was pulling the gasket off some of the black viton teflon material came off, which i gave 4 coats of copper spray so im sure its not that big of a deal.Got em down to 85lbs,ran it around alittle, let it cool, retorqued them to 95lbs

I see SCE ICS makes a copper 87mm gasket with the already installed o ring around each cylinder, there the same price as the cometics, and it seems like a nice gasket since its basically o ringed. But ofcourse theres little feedback, because people like going the proven way....im about to try it out.Theres acouple people running them. :thumb:

also power enterprises makes a 87mm stopper style gasket for the 2.4 size bore, its alittle over 200 bucks though.

it just comes down to machine work!

Yeah I went with the Cometic 87mm HP one myself. Nice lookin' gasket. Can't wait to send it all to the machine shop once I get my pistons.

On my stock 2.0 setup I got my profile hp/tq numbers. I'll be transfering everything over to the 2.4 and we'll see if I can't gain a few points on the tq graph as well as spoolup time :thumb:

My before and after numbers on the dyno from the 2.0 to 2.4 were: (before I changed the turbo...still had the 14b on both of these pulls.)

Before
255whp, 252torque 18psi 14b

After
255whp, 315torque 18psi 14b

The things I noticed most about the swap...throttle response (amazing!) lag time (next to nothing) and severe torque steer (scary!!@!!)

Any other questions?

Awsome information and thanks for all the help.

Do you have the dyno sheets for these two runs. Im hoping to find a before and after dyno sheet so I can compare the power delivery (when power builds/peaks/lateaus). 50 lbft of torque increase is pretty big. Sounds like this motor really makes these cars alive.

Sorry, Im not trying to hijack this thread... Im interested in hearing more about the car too.
