I am currently building a 2.3 stroker 7bolt motor for my 97 eclipse. 100mm crank scat 7bolt rods and ross 9.0:1 pistons. Head is a 7bolt head with evo9 sperings, stock cams and gears

I am running a evo3 16g as of not to break in the motor and because I want a fun street car. I know people think the turbo spools too quick and I will be disappointed in high rpm's, but this is what I have laying around and I am going to see where this takes me.

as for fuel I have 1000cc injectors 255 fuel pump rewired I also am having a custom short route intercooler made by my buddy.

My question is I am able to run maf-t as my sole tuning device. I know dsmlink or nothing is the idea of most people (I feel the same way) but as most of us know funds sometimes run out. My buddy has a maf-t set up he said I can have till I get dsmlink this summer. I know that it is not going to get the best results but Is it possible to have a daily driver with a good idle with decent fuel maps where I am getting good gas mileage in comparison to my injector size. I do not know much about tuning, he does and says he can make it happen, so I want to get some advice in order to make it easier for the both of us and so I can have some of my own knowledge.

Thanks
chris

Man I hate to break it to you, but 1000cc injectors are going to be next to impossible to tune/compensate for relying strictly on a piggy back tuner. What you really need to do is down size injectors to the 550cc-750cc range or save your money for DSMLink. The second of the two would be much wiser. The lite version of V3 is pretty cheap for all of the capabilities it gives you. I would look into link a little more before you buy that translator. Sometimes you can find deals on link used here on tuners classifieds too. Best bet would be to hold out for a little while till you can score a deal on a DSMLink set up.

Im going to look more into the ecuflash thing...

The reason why I was asking is because I have the maft and 1000cc injectors at my dsiposal without using any $$$$$.

It would be great to get dsmlink or smaller injectors but that again is $$.

So how do I flash an ecu, anyone have an estamated cost to flash it?

read first sentence.... what else do you need to know???? I will clarify I have a 97 eclipse gst it is white. Engine is a 7bolt with 4g64 100mm crank scat rods ross 9.0:1 pistons acl bearings arp hardware, MLS head gasket, 7bolt head with eco8/9 springs ect 1g cams oem timing componants poly engine mounts, stock trans, act 2100 clutch. 1000cc injectors. I have an evo3 16g turbo and evo3 o2 housing. I have a 3 inch maf with maf translator that will be at my disposal. I also have a glow in the dark shift knob that came with the shell! should add a few HP....

EDIT: I changed my info so It will not misunderstood.

I am getting the openport 2.0 with the reflash connector is this all I need other than computer and correct logging and tuning program. I do not see in the picture anything that hooks up to the laptop. Is that just not show or do I need to get something else

Tactrix Openport 2.0

bottom right hand shows the reflash connector I know I need that and of course the openport 2.0. anything else?

thanks for ANY help...

The first thing I would suggest is to not hijack someone else's thread, especially with a duplicate post that you just made in another forum.

Second, you need to update your profile to show all the mods done to your car, and change the description to reflect that it is a turbo, not N/T.

Third, you have a lot of reading to do. You are going to have to be able to at least get the simple basics out of the way either on your own, or by finding someone local to help you out.

Start here: ECMLink Knowledgebase

First part of thread:
You can't reflash a 97 ECU, sorry.

Second part of thread:
Did you just post your phone number on the interwebs?

:banghead:

My car is have a ton of problems starting and runs like CRAP when its started... I have the battery, alternator, and starter checked and they are all good. It cranks but its like it doesnt want to start and it takes awhile to get it to start. its a new ecu (idk what kind) and it has dsmlink.

its a 2.3 so do i need a better starter?

could it be fouled spark plugs?

is the coil on wire system not putting out enough to get it started?

i cant get my dsmlink v3 to connect with my computer it says "failed to connect" and the only "COM" that shows up is "COM1" i saw somewhere they said to use "COM3" or 4 but all that comes up is "COM1" I manualy added COM2 COM3 and COM4
every one i tried said "SerOpenPort failed: Port not valid" please help me LOL

what am i doing wrong? any help is appreciated

You need to get this issue fixed before anything so you can atleast get some kind of base tune. Go to ecmtuning.com, and get on the forums. Theres probably some troubleshooting info directly on their website when first connecting ecmlink.

Update on my situation

I got the tactrix 2.0 cable with the flash connectors. I also have a 98 flashable ecu.

Question 1- Where do these plastic plugs go? I am assuming the one with the wire comming off that plugs into the actual tactrix 2.0 thing goes somewhere neer the obd2 port? The other two adapters?

Question 2- I personally am have little knoledge on tuning, but my friend has tuned several cars on dsmlink, so will this be similar?

question 3- Anyone have any suggestions on what I need to adjust for my base tune? I have heard that the the 2.3 is not different than the 2.3 for tuning and I could use a base tune from a 2.0 to start with but wouldnt timing and such be much different with a 2.3?

Just to clarify what is done to my car

it's a 97 eclipse gst

7 bolt block
foged crank
scat rods
ross 9.0:1 .30 over
acl race bearings

evo2 head
evo 9 springs, retainers, lash adjusters, rockers
evo 2 cams
stock gears

1000cc injectors (may be going e-85 in neer future)
stock smic to get car started and broken in
evo3 16g turbo
c.o.p. set up

98 flashable ecu
tactrix 2.0 cable
flash adapters

The one wire connector plugs in to the car's MUT port, if you have one, it's right behind your OBD2 port. I think you'll need to wire one in, but I don't remember.
The principles of tuning are universal, it's just finding the data and using the programs that changes.

I am still a bit confused because I do not remember reading anything about wiring in anything when I read through the thread started by ceddy. I will go back and read it again it's been a while

I am thinking about breaking it in with stock injectors, stock intercooler, stock ecu, and a 16g turbo. considering I will not be beating on it, I do not think the extra air flow will cause too much issues with a 2g mass at stock boost. I am sure I would hit fuel cut at higher rpm's, but does anyone have any input?

Stock injectors on a 2.3L stroker? - DSM Forums: Mitsubishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser, and Eagle Talon Forum: DSMtalk.com

This thread states that this is the reason he blew his 2.3 stroker, but I do not see how this could be possible?

Not sure how breaking it in with factory fuel and timing maps will work. You have increased the displacement and the fuel and timing maps are based on a 2 liter.

You should be able to take the flash plug found port in 98/99 cars with one wire coming out of it and connect it to pin 79 on the ECU. I'm pretty sure it's Pin 79... Then just plug the Tactrix cable into the OBD port under the dash and connect the flash plug from the Tactrix cable to the Flash plug port.

Alright, Ill drive it over so you can help me! LOL Ya I will figure it out. I need to find those youtube videos that breaks it down Barney style on a evo. That should help out a lot.

ps-Flash I have not forgotten about you wanting the radiator support. We will get that to you before I junk the gsx. Text me if you need it sooner!
