Hey DSM'er in less than five months i'm planning on a build is there any way i can maintain top end power with 8:8:1 ? I do plan on a full long block head included any opinion, advice would be greatly appreciated .
 
Nothing wrong with 8.8:1, that is the compression ratio I chose, really depends on your goals. I have no complaints with my stroker. . .
 
Well my power goal is 550whp on a awd but i would like the room to grow jumping into about 650-705 whp and about the fuel it will run on 93 octane realistically i dont have access to E85 some gas station offer race fuel but not around me
 
I ran 8.8:1 with my stroker and loved every bit of it. She was in the range that you are aiming for. I doubt that you'll be disappointed with that choice, especially on Pump gas. On Pump with my setup, I never ran into knock issues with moderate timing and high boost levels.
 
And for those who are running 2.3 long blocks or short block what companies do you guys recommend i was looking to purchase from DSMPARTS.com also what would be a good turbo to run with a 2.3 8:8:1 for faster spool up

I need more cam myself.

Holset with a set of HKS 272's. Ran it for about a month before I sold the car. Upwards of the 450+ range. After some timing adjustments and clutch attention, I didn't get it back to Mellon before she as gone so the 50+ish HP jump was via the butt-dyno.

The 272's were aggressive, but I really wish I had went with Kelfords on that one. Once I get down to replacing the BC's that are in this Talon, I'll be going with Kelfords.

And for those who are running 2.3 long blocks or short block what companies do you guys recommend i was looking to purchase from DSMPARTS.com also what would be a good turbo to run with a 2.3 8:8:1 for faster spool up

Spool time becomes less of a problem with the extra displacement. The amount of boost you can gather at the line increases quite a bit. I know when I first got mine together I ran a 16g mated to an FP manifold I couldn't stay -out- of boost without shifting ridiculously early. The larger turbos become easier to spin in relation.

By my math, you are still 50hp short of being at the low end of the range the OP is targeting. :)

FWIW - My butt dyno says that I'm making around 600whp on my HX40 at 56 lbs/min of airflow. That's pretty good considering that I only average around 8.5 hp per lb of airflow on a 2.3l with FP2 cams.

A : I'll see if I can find the paperwork! I don't think I let it go with the car, but I'll check. I have a pal that does a lot of their Honda/Nissan tuning over there that got me in one weekend. Not going the lie, the guy is pretty arrogant, and boy does he love that Evo..If anything I can see if Joel can check for a copy.

It's a bit under, agreed. But it's still up there near the range. I feel respect for anything above the 400hp range. It really does take attention to get there. I would suspect with your setup that you're well above that quoted bit. Haven't looked at yours in a looong~ time, but that car has come a ways. One of my favorite 1g's by far.

Your math would be accurate though, and the butt-dyno is certainly not the most reliable tool, but I have a decent feeling of the increase. Could have simply been a change in torque curve, the amount of boost I was building at the line, etc. At any rate - That setup is a great setup and people have reported 475-500ish+ on the Holset+272/272 - 272/274 matchup. I'd recommend it, then again I'm a fan of Holsets.

I'm sure the OP wouldn't be disappointed with 50hp short. Had the last adjustments been made and it had been dyno'd a second time, it might not have been 50hp short ;)

That ^ was sarcasm BTW, for those that may have missed it. Based on my best Link estimates, 1/8 times/speed, and 70-90 times... I'm barely touching 490whp or so on a good day with about everything I can get out of the HX40 and the FP2 cams, due to a WG blowing open at 30-32psi. And even that is still just a best estimate.

The blonde one's Droid has a Bookface app open 24/7. I only know what I hear...and I think the only DSMTuners member "group" I know of is the one that she started, which has something like 22 people in, and added me to regardless of my say in the matter.
