So I am starting to look into this build. I have a motor that is in needs of rings and while in there I was thinking of getting a G64 crank to stroke 2.3. Now is that all that is needed for a 2.3? Can I use the stock rods and pistons or do I need special rods and pistons?

Thanks guys, so a stock 1G rod will work just need stroked pistons correct?

It would work but I certainly wouldn't recommend it. You are adding stress to the rod due to the change in the rod ratio. If I were really in a bind and 'HAD' to do it, I suppose I would do it with 1g rods but I would STRONGLY encourage you to consider saving the cheddar for a set of decent rods. Im running eagles in mine and have had no problems, and they are the 'cheap' choice.

Why not use the whole 4g64 block and bolt your head on it for a 2.4 litter. Just an idea. If you do use the stock rods for the 2.3 you will need pistons that are 6mm shorter or they will poke out the top of the 4g63 block.

Its not quiet a bolt on affair, besides, using N/T rods on a boosted application would be a waste of time.

The 4G64 out of the old spyders and gallants is, as long as you use the 2.4 timming belt. Hyundai even made the same block it is stamped G4CS. The 2.4 uses the same dimension rods and pistons as the 4G63, so he could use his turbo internals or after market if he wishes. The only real difference between the motors is the 6mm taller deck height and the 100mm crank.

As ive never read much about the g4cs, ill admit I cant comment on it for install. I would be curious to know the final compression ratio of this stock block with 4g63 head setup, can you enlighten us? I am still going to maintain my previous statement on the rods: N/T rods are not a good idea in a boosted application.

It has been stated later in the thread that the stock g4 rods are the same as 7 bolt 2.0 turbo, I can only assume this is true, therefore please ignore my post!

The rods are the same between the 2.4 non turbo and a 7 bolt 2.0 turbo.

Wait, are you saying that I can use a G64 block and crank and still utilize the stock rods and pistons from the G63? This is using 1G 6 bolt internals btw. Which years can I use to put it all together ?

Cool, good to know, better listen to those guys and ignore my posts!

The 4g64/G4CS blocks have an 86.5mm bore, so your 85mm pistons would not work.

Eh , going back to getting a g64 crank and aftermarket pistons on stock 1g rods. Thanks....
