Almost a year ago now I bought a 1GA trans for my 1GB before knowing the spline count on the output shaft is different....yes it took the deadbeat off this forum basically a year to get it to me but thats another story.

I would just like to know if I could just use the 23 spline output shaft from the original broken trans and how hard it is to swap those out.

Swapping the output shaft is an option, so is using a 22 spline t case. Changing the output shaft is a little bit of a hassle though, as opposed to getting a matching t case. Yes you can swap output shafts (22 and 23 spline in 1g transmissions without needing to do any machine work), but it requires taking the trans apart.

If the tranny that you got is a 22 spline than it is a 90 transmission. You will also require the 90 cables, shifter, and shifter bracket on the transmission. You can swap out the output shaft, but you will have to remove the end case, take the snap ring off that holds the viscous coupler. From there remove the viscous coupler, there will be a ball in one of the 2 holes in the splines under the coupler. Remove that ball and keep track of it, don't let it fall in the transmission. From there you can slide the shaft out the bellhousing side and slide the 23 spline shaft in. Than you will reinstall the ball than the coupler and snap ring. Make sure that you reinstall the reverse syncro wave spring and reinstall the end cover with a layer of grey rtv.

Yep. cheapest and easiest way to do it. Plus easier to find the other components if they should break. Such as cables, Xfer cases and shifters.

Soo the input shaft surgery would still be the cheapest and easiest way to go?

Even if I shop local which is what i should have done I'm not crazy about finding all of that 1GA stuff.

...I hate that my pics are a tease esp when I got a carbon fiber hood and smoked my headlights myself a while ago. I refuse to post more pics until the vision in my mind's eye is complete. Like painting the 2G OZ F1 wheels satin black, installing the stock mirrors an repainted window trim.

I visited it uncovered in its field today and delays like this make me feel the kick in the crotch these setbacks deliver out of left field.

That haze on the edges of the hood better buff out

Transmissions/tcases are not classified as 1Ga/1Gb. That only pertains to body panels/lights. Transmissions are broken down by year. 90 and 91-94. There have been very recent threads regarding putting a 90 trans into a 91. You need to know the exact year of your trans. The VIN number is on the bellhousing. Find the VIN, then you can find the year of that trans. That will tell you what you need to know. WORST case scenario, if you have a 90 trans, you just swap the bracket that holds the cables to the trans, and you swap the vertical shift arm on the trans. That's IT!

If I remember correctly, and don't quote me, you can also swap the shift selector (where cables hook to on trans) with the other model. I've never done it, and I remember reading its a pain, but it'll keep you from having to track down new cables and brackets as well as having to possibly swap them out again in the future if this trans craps out on you. Something worth searching though. And if you don't wanna search, email jacks trans, tre trans, or shep trans and one of them should be able to get you a quick response on if it can be done and how difficult it would be to do :) G/L with swap.

If you have the correct tool to get that pin out than sure, but it isn't just a roll pin, it is a pressed in pin.

Gotcha. Like I said, I thought there was a way to get it out, but wasn't sure how. If the trans is out, he could always see what a mom and pop trans shop would charge to swap the selector for him.
