All 1g wheel and tire size questions from the newbie sections are merged here.

hi,
i am interested in putting 18" motegi MR-7 wheels on my 1991 plymouth laser. my only problem is i do not know if they will fit in the wheel well with tires. if anyone out there has 18" wheels on their laser....please let me know so and also tell me what size tire you have on the wheel. i would also like to know how snugly they fit in the wheel well. if 18's dont fit i guess i will have to go for 17 inch wheels. what is a good size tire that would fit a 17" wheel?

thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me

jerome

Your car uses a 16" wheel. 17" will probably hit something on bumpy roads and turns.

...Ummm... yeah, I'm not sure where a bigger rim is going to create a problem like that but I suppose it could happen...

Any way with the specs you listed ASSUMING a center line of 4 inches and with 5.75 inches of backspace that'd give you a 1.75 inch offset which when tuned into MM would give you about 44 or 45MM offset depending on how you round the numbers.

Now the bad part is I'm not sure if a 8 inch rim with that offset will fit A 1G but I'm sure someone could tell you with this information.

I want to get rid of the snow tires all together. Just tryin to figure out what size tire I would need to have the clearance needed. So you are saying with the 8 in inch it may not fit? I am just wandering what tires I should get that would make the clearance for the wheel well. Seems like I may be better of just sticking with the factory rims and just goin with 215-225/45-55/16 I was just hoping with the spcecs listed on the rim someone would be able to tell me yes get this tire and it willl work or no it will not work at all. I understand people have a stink with the question can these tires fit, but like I say a little confused still about the whole offset thing.

I am ###### just gonna stay safe and buy some new tires for the stock rims. Go with some 215/55/16 perhaps. Just for know sake it the offset is off how premature would that wear your wheel bearings and such down. Would it be within a year or something bogus like that or would it last some time? Anyways thankyou for the info guys, tryin to learn this stuff...

Standard that would match up really well is a 225/45/17. This gives you roughly a 25" net, while the stock for us 1g's is 24.9" I have just bought a set and they will be installed on Thursday if you would like picks for reference.

As far as an 8", mine are 7" and this size tires are rated for 7"-8.5" for most brands. Some have a smaller range based on the composition of the rubber and the shape of the tire.

Hey peeps:

I'm purchasing some 17" wheels for my car(92 talon tsi), but was wondering which width was the correct one for our cars. For example the Rota's i'm looking at are sized 17x8 or 17x7.5 Which is the correct one for my car? I really am a noob when it comes to wheel choosing.

Any help will be greatly appreaciated :thumb:

Well to be honest, i hadn't thought of tire size. But if you could kindly give me a recomendation as to a good size, i would be very grateful. I currently have ksports on my talon, but it is not slammed. It has a little drop but not much, i can fit 3 fingers in the gap between fender and tire.

Any help is welcome.

I have +35 offset on the 17x19 with 255.. I had to shave a bit off in the rear trailing arm.

I also am running is +35 offset 17x8 on the MR BBS with 235. No issues one bit.

Rubbing on the fender isn't a problem, it's just the trailing arm :)

Just picked up 17x8 43 offset with 235/45's. The little hairs on the tire rub the front struts, so you'll need less then 43. I only got them because of a good deal. I'm lowered about 2".

well i fit 235/35r 19s on my 1g and its lowered doesnt rub i think i really wanted to i could put 20s and still be ok

are dimensions the same for a 1g tsi fwd and awd as in clearances and etc? im looking at a set of Kosei K1's, 17x7. i know they'll fit, i matched them up at tirerack.com, but are there any differences in the two models i should be aware of when sizing the widest possible tire without rubbing? 215/45/17 is the recommended size by tirerack.com but i know there's potential for more, as had 245/45/17's on my 240.. man transitioning from a rwd to a fwd is giving me bad dreams about traction

245/45 is gonna be way too big on a 17" wheel on a 1g car, but as far as fwd and awd, they will be the same or similar for tire sizes. You won't want to put bigger tires on the back of your fwd anyways, so the size will be dictated by your front tires and they are the same as on an awd car.

I would say that 225/40 might be possible but pushing it, depending on the total net offset of your wheel, brakes etc.

haha of course, i wanna keep the sizes the same at all four corners :| haha actually, im now thinking about going with some lightweight 16" wheels, instead of the 17"s.. i've kinda already gone through that "ricer" phase and want no more attention than a 92 corolla gets. i must be getting old, but anywho thanks for the rec, i'll look into it further.. i have heard of having to trim control arms?? or something for the front i think, but im not sure. but hey, if that's what it takes
