All 1g wheel and tire size questions from the newbie sections are merged here.

hi,
i am interested in putting 18" motegi MR-7 wheels on my 1991 plymouth laser. my only problem is i do not know if they will fit in the wheel well with tires. if anyone out there has 18" wheels on their laser....please let me know so and also tell me what size tire you have on the wheel. i would also like to know how snugly they fit in the wheel well. if 18's dont fit i guess i will have to go for 17 inch wheels. what is a good size tire that would fit a 17" wheel?

thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me

Would someone be able to give me some insight as to what offset I would need to run 18x9" wheels with 245-40-18 tires on my 1ga with the DGR coilovers?

I currently run 18x8.5 with a +38 but only a 225 wide tire. Lots of room in the back, but im already starting to poke in the front.

Thanks in advance,

Garret.

I'm about to be picking up some Kosei K1 Racing wheels from a friend and was wanting to know if I could fit some 245's on them? Wheel size is 16x7.5 with a +32 offset.

they already have tires on them, but want a little bigger.

Kris, what you are suggesting is a "good practice". However, it isn't very doable in 16" wheel size. First, 16x8" wheels are very rare (aside from a few OEM aplications and specialty, race wheels). Then, there isn't really a good 235 wide tire in 16". So, though not ideal, many people end up using 245/45/16 tires on 16x7.5 wheels. It actually works OK.

It is worth mentioning that I wouldn't do this in larger wheel sizes (18 or even 17). They are less forgiving when it comes to using oversized tires.

I honestly read 17" or whatever reason. I'm not used to seeing 16" wheels asked about, TBH.

Ignore me as my 16" experience is limited to Probe wheels. ;)

So it would be alright if was to do a 245 tire on the 16x7.5? I'm tire fitment and suspension noob so still learning this.

My buddy has a set of 18's he wants to sell for oober cheap..Trying to find out if they will fit just fine, and not rub..

There 18 with a 245/40 tire on them? They gotta be wider than 7 you think?

I don't know the offset but they fit on his G6..

Just from looking at what Garrett (Greddy_1700) had posted on the previous page with what he was running, and he was running a 225/40/18 with a 18x8.5 (+38 offset) rim and he had clearance, but none extra up front. I'd imagine for 245/40/18 tires, you'd want +28 offset or so. Then again, a 245/40 is 16mm taller than a 225/40 so you may want a 245/35 which is 8mm smaller than the 225/40.

Ya that's what I figured..I don't know how to measure the offset..And the current owner doesn't know what they are either..

9 is pretty wide for not knowing the offset..They were on a pontiac g6 if that helps but that probably doesn't help at all..

That actually helps alot Kris..Thank you..I should Have freaking googled it instead of freaking out..

Well I know that the backspace is in front of wheel centerline..Does that help at all without the correct measurement?

You have to consider that these measurements/offsets are done in millimeters. So, not really when you're pushing it with width... :?

Yeah width on those are pretty damm wide..I was shocked when I measured them...

Well I guess all I can do is put one on and see if I have clearence issues right? Should I put one on front and back to make sure?

I'm almost positive you'll rub, but it won't hurt to try. Make sure to set the car down on them to check clearances.

Yeah I even told my buddy that they might be too damm wide..

But he said no worries..Well put one on and check if they will work..And if they don't, he'll try putting them on craigslist or something..

But I can't drive(no insurance) so Im gonna check clearences with my hands and eyes..And hell if I go to put them on and contact the shock or something I will know right away they will not fit..

But I do have a backup plan on for wheels..I got a set of 17's in storage..Just have to get a powdercoating Quote on tuesday..

I just got a set of rims off of a 2001 intrepid for winter which match up, but they have 225/60-16's on them; are these going to be too large for my 1990 GSX? I have done some looking around and so far I haven't seen anything on such a high aspect ratio being compatible.

specs:
18x8.5 +30 (flat face)
18x9.5 +30 (deep concave face)

anyone with feedback if I can use these on a 91 GSX? Not looking for stretched tires either. Rolling fender is an option. found a set used for a decent price if they will work.

If the above is pushing it my next choice is:

17x8 +38 (square set up)

I want some meat on the rims for protection. Its going to be my sons first car so I want it be safe and also protected as much as possible for pot holes and curbs.

Thank you:)
