All 1g wheel and tire size questions from the newbie sections are merged here.

hi,
i am interested in putting 18" motegi MR-7 wheels on my 1991 plymouth laser. my only problem is i do not know if they will fit in the wheel well with tires. if anyone out there has 18" wheels on their laser....please let me know so and also tell me what size tire you have on the wheel. i would also like to know how snugly they fit in the wheel well. if 18's dont fit i guess i will have to go for 17 inch wheels. what is a good size tire that would fit a 17" wheel?

thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me

jerome

my 1g AWD is dropped about 1.8" and I have 215 45 17s and they don't come close to rubbing. but ya watch the offset. Stock i believe is +38mm, my rims are +40mm and theyre fine

Theres really no reason to get that wide of rims unless you wanna run 265's. Correct me If Im wrong but those would hit the fender? They are cheaper, but a little heavier. It probably doesnt matter either way.

I need something for my DD 90 talon tsi awd..

I have an evo so I don't need nothing crazy expensive.. Just a good all around tire with some good grip..

Most importantly is going to be price/quality if those exist together.

Any ideas? Oh this is stock wheel size....

205/50/16 or can I go up to a wider tire on stock wheel.

I just go some 17 by 7 inch wheels and i not sure which size tire to go with them. These wheels look similar to the Evolution lancer. 225 45 17 is the size recomended by Tire rack. Any Ideas. -Austin

I'm running 215 45 17 on 17 by 7 rims and I'm quite happy with them. A little less rotation mass than 225, better fuel economy and slightly worse handling than 225, I guess. But the right choice for my needs.

thanks for the quick reply. i will go and pick them up today, they came off this guys beemer and he only wants 80bucks. again thanks for the help

Short answer no. You would have to stretch the tires to get a 205 to fit on any rim that can handle a 255.

I've nerver heard of 255's on stock 16" Stealth wheels. Stock tire size is 225/55R-16 or 245/50R-16.

You were right I mis-read them. I had to use them as a last resort, but I'm still looking for a good replacement. The people I talked to said the wheel was a little too big for the tire, but it shouldn't be a huge issue. Is this the correct info?

I don't know the acutual rim width so I can only make an educated guess. Based on what I know about typical stock wheels (they tend to be on the narrow side) and the size of tire used optionally on these wheels (245's), I would guess that they are 7 inches wide. In which case you would be fine putting your 205/55/16's on them. Do not take this as gospel. It should be easy enough for you to confirm the actual wheel width when you get a tire off.

FWIW, I am 99.9995% sure they are greater than 7 inches wide. I'll see if I can find some proof.

Edit: At least this set of Stealth wheels is 8.5" wide, and for a 17" wheel. Right side

Edit 2: And here you can see different sets of wheels that came on 3/Ss. None less than 8". Straight from service manual

Edit 3: Apparently my links aren't working, so go to Stealth316.com, enter the framed version. In the left hand column, you will find a drop-down menu. Take it to --Specifications-- Wheels for the second pic, and --Jeff's Garage-- Pirelli tires for the first.

I need to get new tires, and I really want to get the largest tires possible... here are a few reasons why I want to (I don't care if you think I shouldn't haha):

1) Gear ratios on the eclipse: 5th gear, 3K RPM, only like 65-70 mph.... I hate that. Larger tires should help with cruising...

2) I really like the look. a previous owner cut the springs, I hate it this low. So for now I want to get huge tires, then adj. coilovers to bring the height back up a few inches.

3) I'm about to put like $3500 on the credit card for performance parts, I could use the traction =)

I currently have: 215/45 R17...

What is the largest tire you have seen someone run on a 2G?

******** I have stock rims, I would like to know the largest diameter, or raise the "45" reading....

PS - how wide ("215") can I go on stock rims, 2G awd?

Thanks!

I would think 225 would be the widest safe width on those stockers. The sidewall height prob. cant be increased anymore.
