I want to upgrade my 97 GSX with a 1g throttle body and intake manifold. Will these parts make that big of a difference on a engine with light mods? And do they bolt right up to the engine? The search showed nothing on the questions I had.

You don't need a 1G intake manifold, just get a 1G throttle body (make sure it's a 91-94)and port the inlet to your 2G intake manifold to match the throttle body. Don't forget to port your 2G throttle body elbow too. It will bolt up and yes it does make a difference. Maybe not "huge horsepower numbers" type difference, but it's noticeable. When I installed a 1G throttle body on my old GS-T, throttle response was alot quicker when I wasn't in boost, and I felt a little more umph in the top end. Good luck.

Putting a 1G intake on a 2G head takes a lot of porting to make the runners match in size. Most shops will advise against attempting this type of port job. Stick with a 1G TB for now and do some research with some shops and see what they recommend for your setup.

Enlarging 2G head intake runners to match a 1G intake manifold will end up losing flow, bigger isn't always better, 1G IM goes with a 1G head and 2G IM goes with a 2G head. Like already said, go with the 1G TB and port the 2G im inlet to match.

Ya, I'm just going to get the TB and port to match, roughly how much will the porting job cost?

As much as the cost of a dremel and metal grinding stones.

If you are still just doing the tb swap, my cousin got his im ported for 225 at a shop to match the 1g tb. He also had to shop around for that other offers were around 250 to 300 dollars.

ROFL I'll do it for $200 and free shipping back to you!!!!ROFL If you order now, I will also throw in free smoothing of the runners........:p Your cousin got ripped off.

if you're doing a 1G head swap onto a 2G, you're fine. the issue is when you try to put a 1G intake manifold onto a 2G head, the ports do not line up
That's right.

Like it was said before go out buy a Dremel 30$ at Wal Mart, grinding bits and polishing bits, take a little time on the TB elbow and energy and you are done. There is no need to take this to a shop when they are going to do the exact same thing as you. I just did mine yesterday and I had 45min in the job, just b/c I took my time.
