Hey guys i'm new to the DSM world and I have recently purchased a 1990 eagle talon tsi. As of now the car is not running, things that i know i need.. a Mass Air Flow sensor or learn what the gm bypass thing is thats in the car does and how to wire it back together, and a starter. The car wines when you try to turn it over sounds like the starter isn't releasing like its froze. i think thats the problem however i know nothing about these cars. I just hope i don't have to put 3k into it to drive it. that will come down the road once i know more about these. thanks for any help and input you have thanks

well first things first go get a starter. you can get a refurbished one for around $100

you should get a chilton manual your going to need it if you want to fix the car by yoursefl

new starter is in and still nothing.. cranks and cranks for about 3 seconds and then backfires but will not start..? this will happen as long as u want to turn the key

check make sure your plug wires are correct and cas sensor is in correct

From what you're describing it sounds like your plug wires are in the wrong order. From left to right the plugs should go 4-1-2-3.

You need to check all the basics like compression check, check your fuel pressure and check and make sure your timing is spot on. Also does the car have a mass air flow sensor because in the posts above you said something about it not having one.

Check timing, it may be off by a couple of teeth. if so you caught it before bad things happened.

When you were talking about the getting a new MAFS you do have one on the car right? And was that a GM translator for 3 GM MAFS?

im picking a new maf up this weekend and there isnt one on it right now. the gm bypass i have no idea anything about

The gm maft is another type of air flow sensor, you can use it to vent your bov.

Mine started and ran just fine, never a problem i have link now, i have to buy the cable to elimnate it.

You might need to figure out what's going on with MAF. I know when i did my turbo swap I forgot to plug it in and it didn't start,
