1g making popping noises wont rev past 4k

Before you say go look at other posts please read first. i'll start from the beginning. I did a complete NA to turbo conversion with a 92 7 bolt turbo motor that needed a valve and pistons so in all purposes its a stock 92 gst 5 spped now. When i put the car together it was completly stock except for a walbro 255 fuel pump and 3 in exhaust. for the first 200-300 miles it ran like a raped ape and i only pushed it once or twice just to see how it will be once its broken in. at that time stock boost guage went all the way to 14 and it pulled hard. after that it has gotten progressivly worse. im at five thousand miles and have fixed boost leaks that i have found and it still has this problem. upgraded to cxracing upper and lower intercooler pipes as well. i can not rev the car past 4500 while in gear aprox 5000 when in neutral. it starts to make popping noises and i can get black smoke out the exhaust. it pulls pretty good up til that point and my stock boost guage now only reads around 10 psi max. also if i drive with the windows down i get a horrible smell in my car now burns the eyes and throat. im not working and dont have alot of money so i need a cost effective way to fix this.

The black smoke out the exhaust could be caused by running that 255 pump without an upgraded AFPR, overrunning the injectors and resulting in you running very rich.

ok i have a stock awd fuel pump laying around i'll swap it out. but it did run fine for first 300 miles thats why i never expected it to be the problem

Could also be a blown gasket of some sort.. Maybe a leaky turbo or exhaust leak - pre turbo.
And let me be the first person to tell you that the stock boost gauge isn't really a boost gauge. It sounds like you need to fix the fuel pressure issue first thing, then do a boost leakdown test, and a compression test on all 4 cylinders. Make sure you're not burning or losing oil anywhere, you do check the oil everytime you gas up right?

thanks its my b day tomorrow so im not going to touch it til the next day but thanks. i do check the oil frequently and there is fuel in the oil but i have figured it could be from air leak or excess fuel. i do know the stock guage isn't exact but its computer controlled so i know the computer is seeing a problem but not enought to throw any codes. i will do some toying around and post my results in a day or so

switched pumps car doing exact thing, did boost leak test and air is leaking soimewhere out the turbo
