i have a 2g 95 eclipse gsx and i just found out the head is craked. I still have a 1g head. Can i bolt it up straight onto the 2g block with puting the cam sensor and cam pullys onto the 1g head?Do i have to do any modifications? Or can it be a straight easy swap? :banghead:

well the intake diamentions are larger on the 1g head
so you will need to check the intake mounting.

next the bolt holes for the cam sensor are not in the 1g head like the 2g head so you would have to add those some how.

where is your head cracked? can you post pics of the crack?

whats the easyiest way to hook up the 1g head i do not the the the crack in the head picture the machine shop told me when they tested it :banghead:

The 1g head bolts on but you would need to port match the intake manifold because the ports on a 1g head are bigger than the manifold. You would need to run a cas for a 1g in the side of the head or drill and tap in the side of the head for the 2g cam sensor. I think i covered everything. Hope that helps.

In order to bolt it up properly, you will need to enlarge the headstud hole IN THE BLOCK. 1g head studs are 12mm while 2g headstuds are 11mm. You will need to use a 1g intake as the ports are MUCH larger than the 2g ports. I don't know how well the plug will work as that's used for both the CAS and the crank sensor.

I have a 2g head I can sell, PM me if interested.

If you swap from 2Ga to 1G you need to decide what cam sensor to use first. If you use a 2Ga (read: Eprom) ECU, I'd try to refit the 1G head with the 2Ga intake cam sprocket and use the oddball CAS from the 2Ga, since you'll be less likely to have the very common misfire problems from an inverted signal.

If you have a standalone or have a spare 2Gb ECU, I'd suggest buying that harness you linked and running an adjustable 1G CAS. The thing to remember in that case is that you may need to modify your intake cam for the sensor, depending on what cams you plan on using.

In order to bolt it up properly, you will need to enlarge the headstud hole IN THE BLOCK. 1g head studs are 12mm while 2g headstuds are 11mm.
I used to believe this too, but I'm not so sure now. The main concern would be weather the extra head hole diameter would stress the top of the bolt (or nut on a stud) differently enough to cause failure. Oil passage should actually be improved, and the head locating dowels will center the head correctly regardless.
