hey guys , im in the process of swapping my old tired 7 bolt head out of a ported 1g head. I know I need a 1g thermostat housing and lower rad hose, but what do I do as far as the coolant temp sensor goes?? will a 2g sensor fit in a 1g housing ?

I hope you have a matching 1g intake.

yes i do :thumb:

i see both coolant temp sensors are 2 wire so im guessing you can switch the wireing over to a 1g sensor??? or if there the same thread can a 2g sensor be put in a 1g housing ??

You use the 2G sensor. Both housings have the same size threads for the sensors.

Edit: And the head bolts will not be a problem.

Hummmm head studs should be interesting since the 7bolt side have smaller diameter studs than the 6 bolt head.

(If this is. 1g 7bolt i could be wrong)

What is interesting about it. The block has dowels that hold the head in place. The bolts just hold it down.

What's the purpose of this? does the 1g head flow better or something? And why not just go full 6 bolt?

Unless you're shooting for over 800 whp, I'd keep the 2G head and use an EVO 3 intake manifold or SMIM.

Not everything everyone does with these cars is for making power. Whatever the OP's intentions, it's always good to keep that in mind.

ok but why make more work for your self to not gain anything?
Oh the hypothetical game. I'll play.

Let's say someone has this 6-bolt head sitting around that has been collecting dust. It has some mild port work but is otherwise stock and in mint condition. The tired 2G head is off the car, in pieces, needing machine work, and this person absolutely needs the car tomorrow and has no alternative options.

I never had to look into this, but why not using the 2g thermostat housing and waterpipe?

The 2G thermostat housing does not bolt up to a 1G head.
