i just had my 7 bolt crankwalk on me.i want to put a 2g head on a 1g block. ive read that i have to drill out the hole for the head stud. what else would be need to make this work.

OMG Crankwalk!?

So did you really have your 2G crankwalk or is this just the de-facto idea and now you are afraid that every 2g block will walk? What was your crankshaft end-play number?

Why can't you just put another 7 bolt block in if you want the quick and easy fix?

well i have a lot of metal pieces in my oil pan, an also found the thrust bearing laying in the bottom of my oil pan, also the balance shaft had alot of grooves in it. i dont know if all 7 bolts will end up with this problem so thats y i just want to use the 6 bolt block.this engine was a replacement engine from one that was blown, an now i have this problem. so basically im put alot of money in so far an just nee to get it running again, so any suggestions would be good

dont know how much miles were on the engine because it came from a junkyard, and do you mean a 98 - 99 6 bolt or 7 bolt... if you mean a 7 bolt what would i have to do to insure i dont run into this whole crankwalk issue again

6bolts only came in 90-92.5 models, so the 98-99 block is a 7bolt. The difference with them is that they revised the thrust bearing and changed it over to a 3 piece design.

They aren't guaranteed not to crankwalk, but neither is a 6bolt. They're just less likely to do it than the 95-96 variants.

And they do tend to be somewhat hard to find because people that generally have a 98-99 block keep them. They can be found though. I picked one up for $50 not too long ago. :thumb:

There is still no proof positive that your car crankwalked. However, it would cost more to fix that block than it would be to get another one.

Yeah I'm in a similar boat, my rebuilt block walked with only a 1k on it. I'm planning on just swapping in a 6 bolt unless I find a cheap 7 bolt. I would suggest swapping in a 1g CAS to get around the Cam & Crank sensors that come on 95-96s.

Drill out the 2g head to accommodate the larger 1g head studs/Clearance for oil head passage. You would also have to get a 1g cas and rewire it or you could keep your existing cas and buy a kiggly crank trigger sensor that bolts onto the 6 bolt oil pump so that you wouldn't have to cut or splice anything. I've heard that it eliminates the misfire that occurs when you do a 6 bolt swap. Plugs onto the oem crank sensor 2g connector.
