Hey there, so I was wondering if you might be able to help me with a problem that I'm having with my Eclipse?

As I have now ideas other than a bad torque converter this just started the other day and there was no lead up signs to it but my car when I put it in drive it feels gutless, but in reverse it's acting normal, and while driving it struggles to get above 2500 rpm but will still gain speed slowly.

I'm unsure of a cap on the speed at the moment highest is 65 but I'm currently to afraid to drive it as it is my only vehicle.

If you could help in any way that would be most appreciated thank you

As Paul points out, your car sounds like it is in "Limp Mode", which for automatic, only allows Park, Reverse, Neutral and THIRD (Drive) so no 1st, 2nd or 4th.

You may have had a capacitor go out in your Transmission Control Unit or one of its sensors may be giving an erratic signal back to that and it doesn't know what to do so it reverts to only those gears for safety. It won't fix itself so you will need to do some tracing of wires going to your transmission. I'd look at the pulse generator wiring, kickdown servo wire and really need to take out your TCU and give it a good visual on the INSIDE looking for leaking capacitors.

That's a few things that could cause your issue.

Is there a check engine light? You sure you're not in limp mode? If reverse feels normal I doubt it's torque converter. Have you checked fluid?
So no there is no check engine light that is on other than on start up and I did check the TCU. I however noticed that there is too much oil in the car so I'm just going to try and do a fluid and filter change this coming week and I'll also check pulse and kick down today. I did try to reset the TCU seeing if it was just a stored glitch but I'm still really doubting it's just a glitch. I will update when I have done this check list thank you for your help

Okay so update finally had the time to pull the TCU today and we'll it looks like I need to find a replacement for it as it looks like I had something fail/burn (will include pictures) so do any of you know where i can find one for a low price?
