Good morning everyone. I was attempting to replace my oil pan on a 1990 TSi when I realized that one of the pan flange bolts is tucked up under the drivers side axle. (Already removed the transfer case)
I got the wheel, axle nut, brake disc and caliper out of the way but the ball joint is fighting me. What's the best way to go about separating the ball joint from the knuckle?
Once I get that pulled out, can I just pull the axle through the back of the knuckle and then pull the axle straight out?
Are there any tricks to pulling the axle. I read somewhere that I first have to remove to bolts that attach the axle bearing housing to the engine block first. Does that sound right?
Thanks for the help in advance.
