1G Door Window Trim [Merged 10-8] belt beltline chrome black weatherstrip

I was wondering if anyone has stripped down the rubber off the trim, mine looks like crap and I was jus wondering if anyone had done it and had pictures. I don't want it to look tacky so I was hoping somebody had some pictures. Thanks

I just painted over the exposed trim and rubber with some flat black exhaust paint. Can't even tell from a few feet away.

Doesn't look bad from up close either. Try to look past the wax residue I haven't cleaned up yet.

I can't supply you with a picture but I used some steel wool and cleaned what I had left of the rubber off. I then took a razor blade and scraped the other pieces off. I used engine paint from autozone, it came out fine. If it gets to bad, you could always pick up some new ones from the dealer.

I removed any loose pieces of rubber with a razor, and then covered the edges between rubber and metal with glazing putty used for body work... Finally, I sanded it all down with 600 grit sand paper to get everything smooth again. Then I primed with a filling primer and painted with "OE Black Trim Paint" from Autozone. It came out much better than how it was, but I think I'm going to do another application of glazing putty to get it smoother (I'm a perfectionist, can you tell?)
Or, as previously suggested, you can always buy new ones. They're about $60/pair from Machv.com I believe. I'll try to get some pictures of them up tomorrow.

Oh, also... removing all of the rubber is out of the question because it runs off of the side of the metal to form a lip. If that is not there, then the trim won't sit flush with the body.

Hey guys whats up!
As the title says. I wouldn't post something as simple as this. I don't know if someone has run into this problem lately. I've been trying to find a set of these lower window trims for my 1g since january but had no luck. I tried all the vendors that I can think of that carry dsm parts. I believe that this part has been discontinued and nobody is selling it. Not even the dealer (mitsu not chrysler). I'm sure that there is people here that are also looking for this part. So if anybody knows of a vendor that still has a few of them, please let us know.

Thanks guys.:thumb:

They're real easy to remove, just remove all the existing material off of it and clean it up. Spray it and reinstall, the paint held up on one of my previous cars.

On my car I just took some black out tape from auto zone and ran a piece down the whole side then trimmed the excess of "carefully" with a razor. . It looks great and you can hardly tell its not stock. And also this was a very cheap fix.

I also need mine replaced and the only vender I found was on ebay. He wants $50 for the pair though. Little steep for the things if you ask me but nobody else has them new. Run a search on "eclipse lower window trim" and youll get his ebay store.

Well, couldn't find anything on ebay. So I went again to the dealer and they order a pair for me. I was going to tell the guy that they were discontinued but I just kept shut and pretended that I didn't know. That way he would search on the computer and all over the warehouse LOL. It seems that I was able to order them. So I'm still waitting for my product to arrive. I just hope that the guy didn't order something completely different. That would really burst my bubble.LOL

hi guys
who knows where to get these parts
MB517813/MB517814 (1G)
these are the weather stripes that goes on the door just above the doorhandle
i contacted several dealers but they all say that the part is discontinued
who knows where to get them
thanks.

yes they are discontinued
i contacted several dealers in the us but no luck :toobad:

finaly i got them from my local dealer here in the netherlands(europe)

i paid 150 dollar each:barf: yes i am still sick of it

but the car looks a whole lot better now with the new trims:thumb:

The netherlands huh? What part exactly are you located. I import air freight from that area. Well, I actually handle the Denmark traffic lane, but the guy across from me does NL stuff. That would be sweet to have a 1G in Europe. If I'm ever in DK I'll have to swing across the North Sea for some fun snow driving :)
