Long story short, my 90 gsx has sat for way too long and I need to replace all rotors, pads, and calipers. Probably some if not all brake lines as well. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a good budget friendly kit. Probably looking more for something beffier than the OEM replacement so I don't have to worry about that down the road, but not looking for a huge upgrade.
 
How long is long? I've had several over 5 years and I didn't do anything except flush the fluid. Rotors were rusty but 5 miles took care of that
Closer to 8-10 and everything's rusted. Pretty sure the back left ball joint just went as well. Also def need at least rear brake lines for sure
 
Could just rebuild the brakes. Rockauto has rebuild kits. It would probably be worth disassembling them completely and replacing everything you can and have them media blasted and paint them too.

Rtmracing used to sell brakes but they have since basically closed down / retired and have a very limited inventory on their site.

You could also look into doing a CTSV brake swap kit too. Would likely be cheaper than an OEM set and a braking upgrade for the fronts.

If you get new calipers I would eat the core charge and keep what you have. They're getting too hard to find. Rebuild kits are under 10$

For the CTSV brake swap can you swap the rear as well? Excuse my ignorance pls

Their site says to refer to Evo fitment. If a 16 wheel on an Evo clears them then it'll work. I have my doubts though. You might have to do some digging to find out

I am in the process of doing this myself. I bought some used 2g calipers for like $50 for both. Bought rebuild kits for all 4 calipers. I ordered 2g Powerstop drilled and slotted rotors for front and 1g for the rear. Along with the rotors I got the powerstop extreme pads. I also deleted my ABS, changed out the proportioning valve to a non abs valve and ordered the ABS delete line kit from JNZ. I also bought new stainless lines for the rear from JNZ. Lastly, I realized that I should replace the smaller lines in the fenderwell. I think I ordered those from Rockauto. Rockauto is also where I ordered the caliper rebuild parts from. I am glass beading and powder coating the calipers. You can look at my build thread for some pictures. You can also message with any questions. They are fresh on my mind bc I am still working on them currently.

Build looks like its coming out great! Love that color its similar to my ram I own. Do you have to delete the ABS when you put in the 2g calipers? Also how difficult is powder coating? Also do you have to worry about clearance with the 2g rotors and calipers? I have 16" wheels. I'm still a probationary member so I can't DM you
 
No you do not have to delete the ABS. I chose to. No clearance issues. The 2g rotors are about .75" larger than the 1g's. I am new to powder coating and have not really found it to be hard. There is a learning curve that I am still on. You will want to blast your rotors with some sort of media first. I glass beaded mine.

Going to 2g calipers will require a new line from the caliper to where it connects inside the fenderwell. The 2g line has a banjo fitting where it connects to the caliper.

I deleted the ABS bc i need the space that the ABS unit takes up.

Rockauto has the 2g lines for $13 or less.

The issue is with the calipers not the rotors. I think you'll find that the part number for the 2G AWD Front Rotor is the same as the 93-94 AWD ones. The calipers on the other hand are different due to the brake line fitting, on the 1G dual piston caliper the brake line threads in directly (as do the NA 1G 3000GT/Stealth and Diamante), where the 2G dual piston calipers use a banjo fitting and bolt. (Same for the Outlander calipers)

The issue with the larger rotors is clearance with the dust/splash shields, you may need to trim or replace them. I can still fit my original 91 16" GSX wheels over the caliper but it's very close.

The difficult issue with 1G AWD brakes is the limited availability of rear calipers. First the 90's are smaller, but both the 90's and the later are pretty much unavailable.

I meant the calipers not the rotors.

I had corrected where I typed rotor instead of caliper in another spot of that same post. Now corrected.

I hadn't read the vfaq in years but I didn't see any mention that the 3kgt and diamante calipers, while dimensionally the same, are not the same as 93 94 awd brakes. The pistons are different sizes so brake bias will change. Obviously makes a difference if you order a rebuild kit. Also for anybody that has a 93 94 don't think you can replace one bad caliper with a 3kgt unit. It would bolt up but it's not a good idea.

Fair enough, but in today's DSM parts market (or lack thereof), you have to use what parts are available. I don't think the vfaq was implying 3kgt/stealth/diamante calipers are the same as 93/94 DSM calipers, but rather that they will fit and work if you are attempting to upgrade a 1ga. Brake bias be damned. I agree, do not mix models between left and right. Unfortunately rear brakes are what they are.

I agree about parts availability. I wasn't suggesting any are better or worse, just that owners are aware they are different.

So you can replace all 4 brakes with the 2 piston 94 brakes on a 90?? I might just go that route because I think I found some. Especially if its all bolt on
 
Alright thanks everyone, just gonna go that way and get upgraded rotors and pads for the rear!
