I have read a lot of "controversy" regarding bov venting to the atmosphere. I want to vent mine, for my own reasons, but I don't want to change from the 1g. Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated, and no flaming, please.

I thought the computer sense that extra anmount of air that gets let back into the intake manifold and the car would not run correctly if vented to the atmoshphere.

You can vent it but that doesn't mean you want to vent it to the atmosphere. The system is designed by counting the 'amount' of air that passes the MAS. At that point, the car things all the air is going into the combustion chamber. If you vent to the atmosphere, then you release some of that air and the ecu will inject too much fuel.

Is this a problem? Only between shifts when you are coming off boost. At WOT it doesn't make a damn bit of difference.

it doesn't take air in, it lets air out so the ECU things there is more air than there really is.

just buy a turboxs rfl bov. it automatically vents to the atmosphere & it sounds bad as hell

I meant when the vacum line was routed into the intak (like oem bov's) Thanks for clearing it up though, I have always wondered myself.

Only one way to find out....

My friends 1991 Talon works fine with the stock BOV vented to the atmosphere. The plugs foul eventually, and it idles funny, but it never stalls. It's funny watching people turn their heads when you shift.

Same goes for my friends WRX. Actually it won't pull past 5,000rpms in 5th for some reason with it vented...but it doesn't stall. Sounds cool though!

I've noticed that with 3 different 1990 (2 Laser 1 Talon) that I've owned...venting the stock BOV to the atmosphere makes the car stall. Hard starting, stalls the second you let off the gas...ugh

Maybe an ECU difference?

Ok enough venting threads. It has been beat to death. If you want to read on it look in the faqs and tuning guide. Then make you own decision.

Just take out the thing that connects the bov into he intake pipe.

Dave, thats only if I do it on the stock 2g bov right? not on the turbo xs?

Nope, it's with any BOV. You can't vent to the atmosphere on these cars (without a standalone or VPC). It's technically and scientifically wrong.

Remove the noise reducer in youre intake, youre BOV is plenty loud then. The noise reducer is this thing that is right behind youre MAF sensor. You unscrew youre MAF, and pull it all out, and the it is right there, all it does is restrict air, and make it quiter.

*dont vent the BOV to the atmosphere

It makes your car run rich

*dont take out the middlr honeycomb

that makes your car run lean

*buy a cone filter, makes the bov loud

If you do vent the BOV to the atomsphere, you have now created a leak since the blow off valve is always open

Oh yeah, and you also hear youre turbo scream to, its great, I haven't done this to my car yet, because I just bought it. But we did it to a friends car. It sounds so nice. It also frees up a little horsepower, because it is a really restrictive peice.

Oh yeah, and do you have any kind of intake? Or cut up youre airbox some to get better air flow? That also really helps witht the sound.

Is there a site that shows instuctions on how to do those things...I know venting into the atm will make our cars stall and stuff, but what do you mean by running rich and lean?

My old Blitz works fine venting to the At.

venting the stock 2g bov is not worth it for some sound.. ive done it just to see how it is and the effects.. totally not worth it.. at first it will run ok and idle fine.. then i guess after the ecu readjusts to it. it will start idling funny and die every now and then unless u keep the revs up.. and since it can't hold enough boost.. it starts to leak.. i went on WOT and around max boost you could hear the bov start leaking and then acceleration slows down..

its really loud though.. just a loud.. PSSSSSSSSSSSH

if you still want to try it and find out first hand why its not good for ur car.. just remove the tube going from the stock bov to the intake/inlet(dump tube).. and just plug that end up..
