Recently I bought a 1991 Galant VR4 with a Broken Transmission. So I found a local C50PH Switchable FWD to 4WD JDM Transmission. I did my research and it has the same Final Drive Ratio as the USDM one. The only thing I had to do is change the shift levels and cable brackets and use my old ones. So I bought the transmission. Outside (not Installed), was shifting GREAT (manually)!!! Opened the rear transmission case end cover, BEAUTIFUL !!!
I read on one of the threads here how to switch from the Older Style 1990 Shift Levels to a 1991 Style so I can still use my shifter cables. All I Had to do is remove the pin from the levels in the transmission and swap the late Style level 1991 to the early transmission 1990
Well it was a PAIN!!! I even lost my patience and had to use a hammer (BIG) to remove that pin. So then I found out I bent my shifting rod and wont even go into any gear. So i tried to bend it again into original position, obviously it will never be not even close to original specs. But it got close enough. So installed the new transmission on the VR4
Its was kinda hard to get it on 1st and when it does it runs perfect, all gears runs great, no grinding, no vibrations, like a new transmission but when i stop the car and try to get it on 1st gear it kinda goes between 1st and 2nd and grinds. same on reverse. Now i think i have to lower my transmission and get a new.
Can anyone tell me were can i get this shift level rod (i dont know its real name) the steel rods that moves the shift rails inside the transmission and has the shifter levels attached in the outside.
