1g Alternator on 98 GSX

Howdy, I've looked for some answers before posting this question. But came up empty.

I have a 1g alternator and I'm looking to put it on my 98 GSX. Are there any issues I should be concerned about? Getting a new alternator isn't that expensive, but I got this one for free. So I want to use it if it's worth it.

I need to cut the harness and wire in the pig tale in order for this to work.

Pros?
Cons?

Any advise on this topic? Will it even work? I hate to cut the harness and wire in the pig tale just to have it not work and give me problems. If not one knows, I'm just going to buy a reman.
