I have searched this and haven't got a clear answer. I need to know if a 6 bolt 1g head work on a 7 bolt 1g Block? I dont know if there is a difference from the 1g 7 bolt and 2g 7 bolt or not. I just need help on this. Im wanting to buy a 6 bolt head but need to know if it works on my motor in my 92 talon.

Thanks,

Yes it should work fine, im pretty sure you are going to lose some power though. The 2g design is better flowing.

That may be true if:

A) He were talking about a 2G 7-bolt engine, or using the 1G head on a 2G car.

B) Guys have made huge power with unported 2G heads.

O.P.- All 1G heads are the same.

You can use a 6bolt head on a 1g 7bolt block, but to use a 1g 7bolt head on a 6bolt block you have to drill out the holes for the bigger head bolts/studs...

ok, I'm gonna try and put this as plain and simple as I can just I just went through this on my 95 awd.

YES a 1g head will fit on a 7bolt block without a problem. HOWEVER, the CAS are different, the t-stat housings are different, and the intake manifolds are different. A 7bolt intake manifold will NOT just bolt straight up to the 6bolt head. There's a substantial amount of porting work you have to do. Trust me, its just easier to put a 1g intake manifold to the 1g head. Then, you have to rewire your CAS to accomodate the 1g head. and the 1g t-stat housing bends differently than the 2g so you also have to switch to the correct t-stat housing for that head as well.

People can argue about the flow and power between the 2 heads all day. I've heard that there's better low end response with the 2g heads because of the ports on the intake manifold. But to answer your question, YES the 6bolt head will fit on the 7bolt block without a problem.

ok so a 1g 6bolt head will fit right on a 1G 7 bolt motor? Is there a difference between 1g 7 bolt and 2g 7 bolt?

Yes it will fit right on. As far a 1g vs 2g head they are different. I suggest trying to use the search feature a little harder. This is a question that has been asked at least 3 times this week and been asked hundred's of other times. As far as the 1g vs 2g head, that as well has been THOUGHOUTLY discussed. Make sure when you are searching a subject to search Titles Only instead of Entire Thread. It will really narrow down your results to what you want. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/326874-difference-between-6-7-bolt-head.html

I went a step further and used a 2G small-port head on a 1G 6-bolt block (non turbo) and didn't have to drill the holes with the OEM 6-bolt head bolts. If you're using ARP studs, however, this is a different story.

Is nobody paying attention to what the O.P. is asking?

HE'S PUTTING A 1G 6-BOLT HEAD ON A 1G 7-BOLT BLOCK. ALL OF THE HARDWARE IS THE SAME- THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, THE CAM ANGLE SENSOR, THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING....IT'S A DIRECT SWAP.

Yes but there is no proof of which is better, so for the meanwhile do not spread false information
Ok so I stand corrected, but you said nothing to correct Hubbell91Tsi? although I have ran both and should have said IMO because thats what i truely believe. I wasnt trying to spread false information and I have watched the arughments about the 1g vs 2g head time and time again.

There is a lot of proof showing the 2g design being superior to that of the 1g.

I also did some extensive comparing of the two on a flowbench, the better port design of the 2g creates more velocity thus producing better results, the stock casting of a 1g head has a LOT of turbulence due to the casting flaws and the design. Its forever going to be argued, and you can make a 1g head flow fantastic with some good porting, but the 2g design is far superior and a better foundation to start with. A lot of the fastest guys out there either are using 7 bolt worked heads, or have recently switched to them.

But to the OP, yes, a 6 bolt head will fit NO PROBLEM on a 7 bolt block, you will need to use the 1g intake mani though. If this is a 1g 7 bolt, then its a 100% no BS swap. 1g 6 and 7 bolt head designs are the same, though, some 1g 7 bolts used the smaller 11mm headstuds (the glorious variables of mitsubishi) so they had the smaller holes in the head, but going the way youre asking it will be irrelevant.
