I have a 1g starter- not sure what yr but by Oreillys application it's says it will fit an auto or manual- I have a 6 bolt swap with what should be a 98 trans/ code f5m31......the starter isn't grinding on the teeth it just sounds like its going right up against the flywheel and spinning..... Like its not angled up enough- can anyone tell me for sure that's what my problem is? That I just need a 2g starter??

For starters any M/T starter will work in an M/T and any A/T starter will work in an A/T. However, M/T and A/T starters are NOT interchangeable so O'Reilys got that wrong. As mentioned, the starter plates are specific to the tranny and very few are interchangeable. The starter plate is matched to the tranny NOT the engine.

I got it as a basket case- but I assumed it is a fwd flywheel because it "had" previously been in the car "running" from what I was told until the rings let loose.......but no I am not 100% sure- how could I tell if this is an awd starter? Does it have more/less teeth? Mine is a 8 tooth starter

Counted every tooth.....FML it's an awd flywheel
