Mike, assuming your car will be finished by then I'll be coming too pending that no issues arise (not vehicle related). That'll be at least 2 of us driving out and then anyone else that wants to hitch up (zdrummer).

The fun part was the pull not the initial launch. Well at least in my opinion.

Because he couldn't "pull" down low. :)

Keep in mind, you're doing the 60-130 part on the drag strip also.

I prefer rear.

For road racing, i agree 100%.

I really miss RWD, but on street tires and unprepped surfaces, there's nothing like AWD.

Well I won't know for a couple months if I can make it this year, but if I can, you guys from cali will probably be driving right through my town on I-70. So if I can make it, maybe we can all meet up at a gas station or something so you all can fuel up and everything and then I can jump in with you guys for the rest of the trip.

hell yeah man, thats what i've been saying this whole time. all the DSM guys that dont live in cali could just tag along with whoever is already heading in that direction. then we just all go out there together, hopefully we can get more people to pick up on this and get like 10 or 15 DSM's rollin out there together! OMG that would be amazing!!

Yeah I'm definitely hoping gas comes down because I'm pretty sure that there won't be enough e85 stations on the trip to go solely e85 and doing the math with pump gas at 3.50 a gallon, I would be spending about 600 on fuel alone round trip. Maybe gonna have to have a buddy ride with me and help with gas and a hotel or something.

why dont you just do that thing where you can just flip a switch to pump gas from E85, lots of people are doing that now these days, because it helps for occasions like this (road trips) because like you said, theres not always gonna be E85 around during long drives like this.

damn Corey stop being a buzz kill :p i would love to make the trip for several reason, if i can get my car in good running condtion and just make a shake down pass i would be happy. either that of pack an extra transmission LOL. and we would have to change the oil before we leave and then again one we arrived LOL. itwould be one hell of a road trip though!

Lol yeah

I've always wondered one thing, why in the hell has nobody ever setup a spring shootout to take place at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix or at least somewhere on the west coast? I think it would get quite a good appearance. Just a thought.

I know rite! it wouls be pretty sweet if we could have something like that over on this side, but its always been tradition.

So let me get this straight.. Dsm shootout is where a bunch of dsms and evos go and race in a straight line down a drag strip? That's sad. Evos were built to go around tracks and hit turns. There was a great amount of thought put into the suspension of a lancer evolution. Yes i am non turbo. Yes my car is slow as a dog. If I had an evo would I take it to a drag strip? NO. That's a a waste of the cars potential. I understand that this website is based off of people making power and going fast in straight lines It just makes me sad at times because dsms can handle extremely well when done right. If people would put the same amount of money into their suspension as they did into their motor we would have a community full of great handling cars.

-and that's my rant. Feel free to hate.

They have an autox competition also.

As for saying you wouldn't take an Evo to a drag strip, launch a high powered AWD before you decide that.

Lol dam you beat me to the punch man i was going to show him that same video, because sometimes its easier to just show them that video instead of having to explain to people what the DSM Shootout is. but yeah man, its kinda like a HUGE car show at first, then theres a Dyno challenge, kinda like how the supra guys have, then the autocross, then sunday is for the Track. people from all over the world travel a long distance just to make it to this once a year event. shits gonna be awesome man. because every year its gets bigger and bigger.

AWD Launch = Instant Pull, you go from 0 to pull, so if you like pull, you have to like AWD launches.

yep!!, True Story! LOL

are you talking to me? because my car is already ready. im just making it faster from now till then.

I'm not trying to be a buzz kill I'm just being realistic, driving a 20 year old DSM cross country for a weekend RACE and then driving back is just short of never going to happen. Then tack on a little bit of "whos going with me?" and you end up with Will Ferrell running down the street naked all by himself.

The odds of a single DSM, thats worth racing at the S.O., making that drive on its own four wheels are slim to none. Thats why I'm offering a beer to any DSM'r from Cali that drives their car cross country and has it parked in Norwalk, OH in time for the S.O...

:dsm:

yeah man but just because your making the drive to the shootout doesnt mean your gonna put it on the track, every year more and more people make the drive there from all over. shit i remeber watching guys from the 1st and 2nd shootout driving all the way out from california and actually racing it on the track then driving back home. this isnt uncommon. take for instance myself, i dont plan on putting my car on the track but i still wanna bring my car out there. im taking alot of pics though and maybe even video.

I totally understand wanting to make the trip just for the experience. A road trip with a bunch of friends party your way across country. The shoot out itself is a pretty fun weekend car show, dyno runs, finished with a day of races. Coming from cali it would be like a pilgrimage to the holy land haha.

I'll certainly be there to mop up Mike's sketchy 'car'.

Who's up for setting up a tent in a hotel room and seeing how many people we can fit in it? :sneaky:

What kind of tent are you talking about???

It can be done. Last year at the Shelby Dodge event; we had a guy from Alberta, Canada drive to Hagerstown, MD in a car he just put a head gasket one 2 days prior. Also note this is a 1992 Dodge Shadow running a 2.4L SRT4 engine, Holset turbo and Megasquirt. Far from "stock" and a ton of custom fabrication. Of course the guy is an engineer by trade... LOL..

He drove there, autocrossed it and drag raced it.. then drove it home; without a single problem. He's either got big balls, insane, or stupid. ;) But proof that it can be done. Actually the Hot Rod drag week is another good example of highly modified cars driving quite some distance and racing inbetween. If you build a car right, it can and will be pretty reliable.

On that note, as long as the Mopar Nationals is not the same weekend, I'll be at the shootout this year.

Street car!

Ill be making the trip with at least one other DSMer (BrokenTsi) from central NY. Would be could to caravan with a bunch of people.

My son plans on driving his 92 Eclipse out from Mesa, Az this year. Her is budgeting $5.00 per gallon for gas on the trip. Its quite a haul, but he will stay the night here in Indy before caravaning up to the shootout with the rest of us. We will have 3 DSM's and a 3000GT in the caravan.
