Hey guys. I bought a 1998 spyder with the 4g64 and auto trans. The issue I am having is that I have all forward gears 1st through overdrive shift perfectly but when I put the car in reverse It will not pull I have checked all the wiring and ohms on the solenoids and pulse generators. I am at a loss here.

Is the shifter cable physically going into the reverse position? There could be mechanical damage to the selector pawl, or worse, physical damage to the reverse gears. The best way to tell, unfortunately, is to open up the transmission and inspect everything.

And....reverse isn't controlled with a solenoid, it is done with the shifter so it could be the reverse band or not enough pressure to clamp sufficiently. Please forgive me if I am wrong but on my 92 it is that way.

His should be the same. Mine being a GS isn't the same, no bands in my transmission. Also check the trans filter and anything else that can be checked before removing the transmission. Start with the easier stuff first.

The cable is moving it into the reverse position the reverse lights come on and I'm getting the battery+ out of the switch on the reverse wire. Yeah been trying to avoid opening it up. The wife is already upset with the 3 1gs I have in the yard. It is the spyder gs non turbo

I read that the trans will shift into reverse with no electronics connected and tried that to no success.

So I am thinking about going to pull a part and getting a galant f4a23 tranny because if I am going to be pulling the tranny I might as well have one to go back in especially if I am facing an internal mechanical issue.

So low reverse brake was fried I guess the p/o was trying to do e brake burnouts in low.. I don't get how the steels can be cooked to black like that LOL but it is working now thanks guys.

When I get back home I will upload pics of the clutches also went ahead and did the shift kit in the tranny since I had to replace the valve body separator plate. I put the other tranny in the car and figured I would take it on vacation with me.
