Ok so I live in California, and im sure you all know how nice our smog laws are out hear....:notgood:...
Any ways I want to smog my car, but I cannot until all the monitors have run, or I need all but 2, at the least.
So I am driving all over trying to get them to run and they will not. I have driven over 500 miles.
When I bought this car about a month ago it had a check engine light for random cylinder misfire. So I cleared the codes. This is a list of the monitors that will not run, :ohdamn:
catalyst monitor,
Evap system monitor,
oxygen sensor monitor,
oxygen sensor heater monitor,
eger system.
I have no check engine light on.
This is a list of monitors that have a run:thumb:
Misfire monitor,
fuel system monitor,
comp component.
Any help would be nice I want to get this done asap so I can put my toys on;)

Basically the ECU in your car does two types of OBDII readiness tests, continuous and non-continuous. Our CA emissions laws state that you must pass all but two NON-CONTINUOUS readiness tests and the ones you've listed are continous.

Continuous checks are what the ECU's watching every second the car is on such as misfires, fuel trim control (o2 sensors/coolant temp), CAS ckt, MAF ckt, etc. etc.
Non-continuous checks are things the ECU looks at just once each drive cycle, each drive cycle meaning you start the car and drive it for awhile at operating temp and then shut it down. These are evaporative emissions, purge solenoid, EGR, catalytic converter, o2 sensor heater ckts, etc. etc.

I'm not plated in CA so I've never had to obey the smog laws, read these this thread and hopefully you'll find what your looking for...
Its also possible that your ECU is doing these readiness checks but your battery voltage is dropping below 10v during start-up. This will reset the non-continuous checks to show incomplete and you'll have to do the drive cycle all over again. You might need to replace your battery if you haven't in awhile, this will keep your cranking voltage up so the ECU doesn't reset everytime you start the car.

I wish it was that easy but I drove about 150 miles with the scan tool hooked up and checked it over and over, it never ran the other checks. I smog cars all the time and I run into this from time to time. But never like this. Most cars take around 50 miles to run the checks. I know lots of tricks to get them to run, but nothing is working on this car. I was just hoping some one new a easy way to get the computer to run a check.
I just read the link you posted. Wow that sucks I should have read that first my bad and thanks.

I think if I put my new ecu in and my dsmlink it can fix this what do you think
You can try it but I don't think thats the fix, you'll have to follow the Mitsubishi TSB to complete each specific monitor. For example, to pass the cat efficiency checker you must...
- start car cold
- idle w/ the AC on for 3 minutes
- drive around and warm up car (you can turn the AC off)
- accelerate quickly to 60 mph
- cruise at 55mph for 3 minutes
- slow down to 30 mph
- accelerate to 65mph and cruise at 65mph for 5 minutes
I'd try the above and see if you can get the cat efficiency test to pass, if it works go through the other TSB checkers to pass what you need to for emissions. If it doesn't work call BS and try running the '95 ECU with ECMLink...

Ah if you only had a openport 2 cable you could flash the 99(which is the only year mitsu corrected the problem for) rom and be done with the problem foreva :D

I still think its hilarious that mitsubishi knew there was a problem with the readiness tests on the 95-98 ecu and had a way to fix it (factory flashing) but never issued a recall and made people pay at the dealer to have the codes set to ready. greedy greedy dealers

Ok today my monitors decided they were going to run. Im not sure what I did to get them to run. I drove over 800miles and I did everything the book told me to do to the best of my ability. All but 2 ran and thats all I needed so I took it to get smog and it passed.

Well look at that shit... :thumb: '95 DSM's CAN pass CA emissions tests. Passing emissions out here man is almost as rewarding as running a 10 second quarter mile in a DSM, it almost seems impossible.

Cya at the meet tonight.
