04181p would be the area where it would be installed, the water cooled housings don't use a bypass valve though.

No, 04181P parts manual shows [PLUG, OIL FILTER INR]-[part number MD145018],
Thank you for your comments.

Excuse me. 1989 ~ 1990,
Double oil cooler?

2X OIL Water cooling + OIL Air-cooling
OR
1X OIL Air-cooling

Which configuration?

1X OIL AIR-cooling, only, for the turbocharged 4G63 engine in the 1990 model year. This is the only model that originally came with that bypass; it is a component that installs in the oil filter housing.

1X OIL WATER-cooling, only, for the turbocharged 4G63 engine in the 1991-1999 model years

The spec sheet captured in the original post is a general collection of data for the 4G63, not an itemized list of the equipment that came along in all 4G63 engines.

I know that it is a plug, as I said that is the AREA where the thermostat would be if it had one.

To your section A., the MD157670 is not OIL Air-cooling. I understand what your getting at and what your screenshots are meant to convey. However, you are misinterpreting the information. Look at the dates themselves. The 1990 model year ended production in the sixth month of 1990, hence the MD132912 part number being used up to 1990.06.01. It was superseded by MD157670 after that, so long as the 6-bolt engine was being used - per your other post, up to the fourth month of 1992.

Here's a tip for stuff like this if you don't want to sift through a bunch of VINs: utilize the Production Period box when you want to focus in on the equipment for a specific model year.

You're looking for PNC 04353 which is Mitsubishi PN MD041092, since superseded by MD365695. Using each of those date codes in the Production Period, it automatically filters the available diagrams for any search. Here's the results of doing this for the bypass valve you've asked about. When left blank, it goes ahead and returns the part because it was available for at least some of the models in the production range:

The 1990011 code returns the part number as well because, again, 1990 was the model year the part actually came on.

Changing the Production Period to 1991011 for the 1991 model year and ASA lets the user know that part is not available for that model year, returning *NO DATA*.

Moving past that, 1993 was a 7-bolt engine, as you've noted. Entering 1993011 into the Production Period field, you'll notice that the diagram with PNC 04353 does not even appear, so there's no chance you can even select that part.

Pay attention to the number of pages available. Like I said, specifying the Production Period filters out the diagrams that aren't pertinent to that specific model year.

Additional information:

4G63 turbine water-cooled oil cooler / oil-cooled oil cooler and 6 bolt / 7 bolt engine seem to change at the same time ...
The oil filter housings changed because the block changed between 6- and 7-bolt engines. The block changed because the crankshaft changed, sure. But because the block changed, the oil pump and oil filter housing changed. The bolt patterns are significantly different. Look at the early methods of the 6-bolt engine swap into a 2G car: one actually had people modifying the 6-bolt block to allow the 7-bolt oil pump to bolt on. Functionally, the water-cooled oil cooler filter housing from the 6-bolt and the 7-bolt are the exact same. The housings themselves simply cannot be interchanged. If you're interested, look at PNC 04300A and 04399. These parts are specific to the water-cooled oil cooler filter housing. Put the 1990 code into the production period and try to pull these parts up -- you won't be able to as they did not come on these cars until 1991.

Does the screw size seem to be different?
RED-BYPASS
BLUE-PLUG, OIL FILTER INR 3/8" BSPT
I don't seem to recall what the thread size is for the oil cooler bypass valve, but it is not the same as the 3/8" BSPT holes where those plugs are used. EDIT: measured the thread size here (M24 x 1.50).

Thanks for the detailed answer, I test.

The bypass valve is much bigger than the size used in the plug, if I remember right its closer to 3/4" or so.
