1995 GSX Build - Journey to a 450awhp daily driver

Nice build, full boost by 4300 RPM is maybe a Tad slow but not too bad really (are you testing in third gear starting froma wide open bog at 3000 RPM?) that's how i test and really something that should be established/mentioned when stating a "boost by rpm" number for spool, since in first and second a turbo will often vary greatly from third gear in terms of spool, as well as if i start trying to spool at 3k RPM i can make more boost earlier than if i started trying to spool it at 3500 RPM in the same gear (more time uinder load)

Anyway, keep the updates coming everything looks great so far!!

My god your car is hot sex!:p Hands down best looking DSM I have ever seen!!

For a turbonetics 50 trim it was pretty bad I think...previous owner and people that had driven the car said it used to hit full spool at 3600 before I had it. All tests were while tuning so 3rd gear around 2k-3k I would go WOT and see what it was from that.

The HX35 is a whole other beast though, I love the thing so far. I haven't even done a boost leak test since I put it on (pretty sure I have some, just don't have an air compressor to check) and it is hitting full 20psi at 3900 in 3rd starting at about 3k. Reason I think I have a couple boost leaks is based on the boost I build with the 2 step set at 5500. With the old 50 trim I built 10-15 psi and now I am only building 5-7psi...doesn't make since with the hx35 spooling quicker. So boost leak test will be done soon I hope.

great build man, I love the red wheels, with the black car, the contrast is sick

Thank ya, it may be getting a different kind of contrast with the wheels here soon ;)

My god your car is hot sex!:p Hands down best looking DSM I have ever seen!!

Haha thanks man..I think there are some that are cleaner but I will welcome the compliment :)

JDM you know: red rims, green rims? It started in Japan. JDM style doesn't have to mean it existed in Japan, just inspired by it.

Besides the only thing designed and released in USA was the chassis. The G63B was originally designed in japan for the Mighty Max and a few other cars (the sohc basis of the 4g63) before the eclipse was ever offered here. The intercooled twin cam was designed specifically for the eclipse/talon/laser with Chrysler in 1989. (4g63t)

Sorry for the spam, it just bugs me when people say dsm's aren't japanese at all. Yes produced here, but Japan designed them.

You are completely right. But even if you ARE right, you shouldn't base anything solely on wiki. I could go in and completely change it if I wanted to, anyone can.

If you dont mind me asking, why you pulled the motor and transmission

To do the bsek, replace water pump, timing pulleys, tensioner, etc and replace the clutch...ended up having to use the old clutch though so the trans will have to come out again when I buy a new pressure plate (old one turned out to be warped).

Valve cover off along with exhaust manifold

New power steering cooler setup. Just a $20 kit at autozone that I bought to replace the terrible factory one. Mine was leaking and rubbed against my IC piping so I just did away with it completely and put this on

DSC_0119.jpg

Car is back up and running but the old clutch had to go back in due to a warped pressure plate and I have lower than normal oil pressure for unknown reasons. Measuring off the oil feed line to the turbo with -4an line and a .095 restrictor I am not getting above 35ish psi above 3-4k rpm. Cold idle psi is only 30. I am thinking that my relief valve may be stuck open or something so I am going to check it out when I get some time to see what is going on with it. I can definitely feel the vibrations in it as well with the bsek.

To add on to the above, I changed my oil filter as it was a bit clogged it seems and also took out the restrictor and am getting 11-15psi at idle and 40-45psi at 4500rpm and above

April 22, 2012 - Finally dipped into the 11s

Since I first got into DSMs I knew I wanted to build something that looked good and went fast...something the majority of DSM owners kind of overlook. No offense to those people as having a fast car is nice, but there are some that are different and have both as well.

The motto of most people that have a heavily lowered car is "low and slow."...my motto is a little different. To be honest, I don't have a motto, but it isn't low and slow. Probably something more along the lines of "it's low, but no, it is not slow." Not very catchy but who gives a s**t. I know being so low doesn't really help with handling but it is a partial DD anyhow so it doesn't hit the curves too much (although when the tubular subframes get finished (ahem 99gstracer :p) I may be correcting the suspension geometry :thumb:).

Enough of the talk, here are the times and for reference, the car.

Mods are in my profile, boost is set at 26-27psi..it changed a little throughout the day but the 11 second pass was at 26psi

First pass of the day and first pass with the new turbo...bogged the launch pretty bad
17f2d625.jpg

Second pass I did a little better launch after raising the two step but I had to let out in second due to wheel hop
4aff059d.jpg

Third and final pass I got a decent launch and made it through the gears decently
b495f692.jpg

All in all it was a good day. I am very pleased with the times and I know for a fact it has more in it because I was running rich the whole day and I haven't done a boost leak test in months...even after tearing the motor out and putting it back together :coy:

Oh and btw, this is a 125k mile stock 7 bolt block. It is driven damn near every day and is getting A/C put back in so I can drive it more during the summer. Comfortable streetcar FTW

What is your MPG now after all that has been done? i'm trying to do a same build with a 6 bolt swap... but its also going to be my deliver car.

damn man, this thing is looking great, I need to see it asap. Mines is gonna be down to the wire, on making it to the COMO meet on the 19th or not, need a wastegate, waterpipe, crank pully, t3 gasket, figure out my intake since i need a 4in now, and see what the downpipe is gonna do and get a good base tune going. Im hoping to get most of this if not all no tuesday and get it finished a

It depends really, I see anywhere from 12-14mpg in city and I think around 20 on the highway. Not too good, I have an unknown issue I hope that will explain my terrible mpg

I can't wait to see yours finished! I wish I was going to the como meet but I can't that weekend. Hopefully we can meet up at a meet later on in the year. Good luck man!

This is definately my favorite build!

Thanks :thumb:

Ill just say this, your car really makes me want to swap over to the eclipse body.....OMG so hawt.

Haha I do love the eclipse body but the talon body is just so nice and aggressive. I wish I had both LOL

Ya but your stance is so much sexier that mine. Ill be on stock coilover and stock brakes for a few montes after its running till i can save up some more dollars, Im just ready to hear her start. But I definatly agree with you man. I dont want mine to be all about speed, Im going for a NICE looking weekend toy with plenty of power.

June 24, 2012 - Prep for the S3 Magazine Shoot

Well a couple days ago (Tuesday I believe) I was contacted by the editor of S3 Magazine to do a feature on my car. I was ecstatic! He asked if it was running (another DSM guy I think LOL) and I said yes, so his photographer contacted me and we set up a time and place to meet for the shoot. Now I only had a couple days to get my car picture worthy so I started throwing things together rather quickly.

Firstly, I took my 2gb side skirts to a friends shop (Kirk Kustoms) to be painted. I asked him if he could possibly have them done by Friday and he said sure. While I was there he offered a killer price on a full buff and detail for me...so I gave in and brought the car to him Thursday morning. Amazingly, the side skirts were almost done as well! So it worked out perfectly.

Jacked the car to get to the bottom screws for the side skirts better

Wetsanding on the hood began and I took off the front wheels to fit my screwdriver to take off the old endcap

And now the bumper

DSC_0787.jpg

By that time I had the old side skirts off and the new ones were finished drying, so on they went!

DSC_0789.jpg

I have had crappy cut up carpet in my car for a while so I finally picked up some extra carpet and put it in Ritz dye for 24 hours before heading to the body shop for the buff and wax
Before being put in the dye

Annnd, I fail for after results LOL. I will take a picture of it today to add to this

Anyhow, car being washed after the polishing compound did its work

And all done! Ready for its date with the photographer

I got a few pictures of the photographer at work. The car won't be featured until the November issue I believe so the anticipation will kill me, but I am excited to see some of the editing the photographer does to the pictures and what he shows me until then.

After the photographer was done, my friends and I needed to kill some time so we went and did a little photoshoot ourselves
