hows it goin guys? i swapped a rebuilt 1994 4g63t into my 1997 gst and its not getting spark. ive checked all signs and im almost positive its because it doesnt have a black top cam angle sensor installed. instead, it has a camshaft position sensor witch reads from under the cam gear. anyways can anyone confirm that this might be right? does anyone have any info on this? thanks ahead of time!

There are web sites that sell the adaptor harness so you can convert the cas from under the cam gear to the distributor type sensor on the side of the head.but yes that is the rreason you are not getting spark

It says 94 4g63 Justin:tease:

Had you actually clicked the link I provided, you'll see the title on the next page is Replace The 2nd Generation ('95-'99) Eclipse Motor with a 1st Generation ('89-'94) Eclipse motor, and the product in question is listed directly underneath.

so i dont need a CAS? i can use the camshaft position sensor thats on it? waht will i have to do? im looking at the info you gave me and im a little confused on it. do i just run the blue wire from the camshaft position sensor to the blue wire on the crank sensor? could you please enlighten me a little more?

so i dont need a CAS?
Sure, if you like your car to be more of a lawn ornament.
i can use the camshaft position sensor thats on it?
You can if you're using the 2G head. The 1G head has no provision to mount the 95/96 cam sensor (the one behind the gear). Many guys prefer to use the 1G cam sensor on the 95-96 cars regardless so you don't have to pull the entire timing cover and cam gear if the sensor goes bad.

Your car being a 1997, you can use the factory 97 sensor if you swap the factory 97 intake cam into whatever head you're going to use....the 1996 and older intake cams are not drilled for the 97-99 sensor.

okay gotcha. im not sure excatly what year the engine is that i swapped into my 97. it came out a 94 but it has a sensor by the cam gear and on other side of the intake cam(where the cam angle sensor would go) there is a black freeze plug thing where the cam angle sensor would go. do you happen to know around what year that would be? i know i cant use my 97 sensor because its not drilled for it.

the sensor thats on the engine now is the one thats behind the cam gear. i have it hard wired to where the sensor would be on the 97 but im still not getting spark.

i have the engine completely wired up and im not getting spark. im using a 89-90 CAS (green top, long wire harness) .the engine i swapped in has a sensor under the cam gear. is i installed a 90 CAS(it originally had the black plug though) im almost positive i have the RRE homemade wiring harness wired up right. do i need to wire in any wires where the 97 CAS wired into the engine harenss? i not getting any spark and ive checked almost everything. please help me. alll info is good info!!

dude thank you! im printing out the most of that info and im going to test everything out. ill get back to you on the results. thanks again!

i also checked for fuel and im no getting fuel either.

i got spark now but still no fuel from the injectors. i tested the injectors and they click. also i am getting plenty of fuel pressure. i am goin to check the relay but is there any thing i can check while i am at it?

found the problem. the guy who i bought the engine from installed the crank position sensor on the backwards....what a moron LOL. thanks for the help!!

sorry about that justin! i started a new thread because im not getting the injectors to fire out fuel but im getting fuel to them. maybe you can help me out on that thread as well. greatly appreciate all your help!!
