Hi I just pick up an 1992 eagle talon for $1500. It has 210k on it run's good body is in good shape no rust. The only thing is I think it has a7bolt engine on it:pray:. The plan is to mod it for a 350 hp car. So my question is, is it work modding a 210k 7 bolts car. Any info would be great. Thanks

I'd do a compression test on it and if it has good compression and good oil pressure than i would have no problem modding it. Do the maintenance stuff first though, timing belt and components, fluids, clean engine bay, plugs, wires, check brakes and suspension.

all the oil has been change. The car has been i the garage for 5 year and the guy told me that he change the timing belt and all the belts before he park it. He starts the car every once or twice a month. I'll do the comp test tomorrow.

I would at least check the belt for cracking and overall condition. Sometimes people tell you things to sell a car.

yes I did check the belt before I pay i this is no crack on it. He to the bill as well for prove it.

Sorry. I check the belt in there is no crack. He got the bill to prove that the timing belt, tension and the water pump too.

i would get a new tensioner and belt just to be safe they can go bad from sitting when i got my car it had a new timing belt and everything but had been sitting for a while and it jumped timing soon after i got it. so saying as you will probably have to do the work anyways i would do it before any damage is done from jumping timing... just my 2 cents

Modding a 20 year old 210000 mile car to be 350hp is a terrible idea. It's not as much a question about the engine handling it. It's more about the fact that everything else most likely won't handle it...drivetrain, suspension components..ect. If you have another car and don't need this one regularly go for it. But if you drive the car daily I really wouldn't recommend it until you have gone through the whole car prepping it for doubling the horsepower. What ever random idiot wants to chime in and tell me about there 3000000 mile car handling 400hp fine.....save it. I don't care.

Must agree in sum way modding a 210k 7bolt bottom end is pretty far out there but if u decide that's what u wanna do i would suggest rebuilding the bottom end first. So all that time and money is not wasted just to have something go wrong = crank walk.

That is why you do a compression test first. If it has good compression and good oil pressure than it is just as good as any other engine. Crankwalk isn't caused by making a bunch of power, it is caused by lack of oil to the thrust bearing. Crankwalk is also very rare in 1g 7 bolts.

It's safe to say if the crankshaft was going to DECIDE to have too much play, it would've probably already happened. Do a compression test, anything below 160 on all chambers and I'd take my precious time modding it to see how the car reacts to each new adjustment and more horsepower application. Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance...

I wouldnt listen to the two guys who said no go. My gsx has 150k on bone stock motor compression is high 150 low 160's accross the board im running a 16g at 20psi 320whp for over a year now with no issues.

You guys know he's in Canada, correct? So the 210,000 is more than likely kilometers and not miles, which means the car has roughly 130,000 miles give or take.

There it is! I always expect someone, mostly people with no real understanding or knowledge of what causes crankwalk, to come out and say "OH NOEZ! CRANK WALK!!!" in these types of posts, thanks for contributing.

I bought a 95 GS-T that was totaled and junkyard rebuilt...barely. It had 191 on the clock. I ran it until 208K...rolled it...then that engine went into a buddies 95 gsx. the HG finally went on it and now it has L19 ARP's and been going strong. That motor is now about to go into a 97 GS-T spyder thats getting the GSX rear parts for AWD swap. compression was 175 and holding fine (decked head in 2009).

I love the 7-bolts, there's nothing wrong with them. My TSi AWD has 170K on it. check compression and if its within service limits, run it!

(obviously do a TB, water pump, BS belt, check harmonic balancer for seperation, all the things you should do when getting the car.)

***does the oil pan have a bulge IN or a bulge OUT?

Thanks a lot for all the info guys. Just did comp. test in its 160 on all 4. Ill will change all the belts again before I'll start the mod. The car was made on June 1992 .Thanks again.:thumb:
