Alright so im kinda new here but i need help my 1990 1g 2.0 non turbo mitsubishi eclipse fwd.

It had a bad alternator and died at a red light, long story short i ended up replacing alternator, starter, fuel filter (which when i replaced the old one had gasoline leaking out out the fuel filter piping so im sure that it means that the fuel pump is producing fuel to engine), and i replaced the gold mpi relay as well as the waterpump, timed my car also got a new battery but unfortunately when i turn the key it'll crank but wont start. When i step on the gas and crank the key on and off it'll sound like the starter tries to grip the flywheel to get her to fully turn on but just makes a slight grinding sound and continues to not fully start.

im at a loss here. if it helps my check engine light will come on but ive driven the car perfectly fine for almost a year with it on and then itll go away once i start driving.

Compare the new starter to the old one, all auto parts stores have messed up catalogs and list only one starter for these cars and in reality there are two different ones that fit, a long nose and a short nose, if you have the wrong one it can keep the starter engaged on the flywheel and not allow the engine to start, or the other way, it can be not long enough to reach the flywheel, install the old one if you still have it and see if its better.

I unfortunatly dont have the old one but the old one did the same thing even after i took it out and rebuilt it :/
The weird thing is is that before it died at a redlight it ran like brand new and id go mob it and drift it around no problem.

i also forgot to mention me and my brother did the spark plug test and got no spark, so i installed new spark plugs with the same end result of it cranking and not starting

The spark issue could be a number of things. It being a 90 I would make sure all the wiring is ok on the cam angle sensor. Ive had a wire break in the past causing this issue on my 90 Galant GSX. The only other things that would prevent it from spark would be both coils bad(unlikely) or the Igniter.

Oh shit i didmt even thonk about that and alright ill definitely check tjat link out on my lumch break thank you both! Ill update you all if anything works

Please be clear as you work through the list if the starter doesn't cause the engine to spin or not.

Also before replacing any more parts make sure that the ECU boots up correctly. You have a 1990 and all of the 1G ECUs have capacitor problems but the '90 being the earliest tend to dry up and short out.

If the Check engine light doesn't come on for 5 seconds and go out you need to look at the diagnostic port and see if it is sending a heartbeat or a fault code like it should. If it's not, the ECU is the first thing to fix since the car won't start if it's bad.

I figured it out its the coil pack and transistor that took a shit but ive been search and using the parts numbers to search and cant find em for the life of me within the time of posting this and replying if any of you kno any swaps i could do myself or where to find factory/parts that could work in its place please feel free to send links
