16 leaky valves = loss of power ?

I lifted the head on my GSX and blew the headgasket so while I had the head off I decided to get it checked out. I took it to my machinist and he said the valves were never lapped in correctly and they didn't seal up. I took this car to they dyno before and it made a whopping 218 whp with a b16g, 3 inch exhaust, ported exhaust manifold, ported o2 housing @ 17psi. The afr was 11.4 which wasn't too bad. I was really disappointed in the car because my other car with only a 14b, 2 1/2 inch downpipe with the stock exhaust stuck inside of it and ported exhaust manifold made 243 hp @ 18psi with an afr of 11.4 also. Would those leaky valves cause that much of a power loss ? Should be a no brainer but i'm an optimistic person

Sure.

If this is the first time the head's been off the car, you'd have to give it a once-over anyway. My brother bought a 1g with a billion miles on it, supposedly with new rings, but it didn't feel right. It happened to blow a valve on the highway, so I re-did the head, and then it pulled like a sumbitch with $300 in mods. Felt like a new car. I loved zipping around with it while I had it. A rinky-dink 14b won't win many races, but it sure is fun having full boost at 2500rpms.

A rinky-dink 14b has gone 11's numerous times already. My buddy ran a 12.6 with an exhaust, fuel pump, and boost controller.

I know what a 14b is capable of. A typical one in a typical person's hands will not win many races against cars that are actually fast. "Fast" being a subjective term. Looks like you were too busy stroking yourself to see I wrote that the 14b car pulled like a sumbitch with cheap mods.

Do you think they run 11's with the same mods a '1300' dollar car would run?..With the supporting mods you would need to run 11's on a 14b you would end up spending around the same amount as you would on a larger turbo..Also,not to even mention the driving it takes to pilot a 14b into the 11's either..Basicaly,the people running 14b's have alot of mods that you wouldn't need right away with just a '1300' dollar turbo..If it was that easy to get into the 11's with a 14b then don't you think we would be hearing about it all the time?..Everytime someone does it's like the first solo flight across the atlantic and the word gets spread throughout the dsm community like a wildfire..I'm not fighting with you,but merely stating that 11's with a 14b isn't a walk in the park..

my rinky dink 14b makes me faster then about 90% of cars out on the street

but to answer your question: most definately.

if your valves aren't sealing correctly, chances are your compression is lower then it should be, therefore yielding less power then it's capable of.

just have the machine shop fix it. get a new headgasket while you're at it and arp head studs if you don't have them already.
