The other day i was driving my 95 gs and it over heated and shut down at a 80mph and shut down due to an accidental downshift. i quickly push it in another gear and started it at the roll. Once i came to a stop it had pretty much no power at all. Could barely even rev it let alone take off in first. Now there is a rattle coming from what sounds like the top end???? Only when you rev it up to 2k rpm it rattles/knocks. Took the oil pan off and all 4 rods move side to side but not up an down??? Everyone around me swears it a valve. could this be a valve? i have video and sound clips of it if interested. could a loose or tweaked valve make the car loose power?

What gear and mph did you downshift from and what gear did you downshift into?

Ill post the video up after this post. But yes i did a compression test and it read 185 180 180 185 across the top. left to right. i fixed the timing to where i believe is dead on and the compression felt much higher by hand. But i started in first shifting at 6k rpm got up to about 60 very slowly thinking it was in first but i guess i was in third. and when i went to shift into what i thought was second at the time the car slammed forward and stalled. so i shifted from 3rd down into 2nd on accident. no i havent fixed the reason for it over heating. i have no idea what it can be other then a radiator. so im trying to find one. im either gonna buy a 95 gst for a 1000 tomorrow or a 97 gst with 96k for 1800 if i dont fix this

heres the video. it isnt long. i can make another one if needed.

Note the car was acting funny today. i started it. it reved up to about 1500 and shut off. then after that if i rev'd it up it would stall immediatley???

i did an oil change after it all happened. took the oil pan off. changed the water pump all the belts and the oil pump. and i never seen as many shaving in an oil pan until i took this one off. some were about an inch long. looked like a bag of glitter was poured in it

It doesn't really matter whats wrong, a knock like that and shavings in the oil means rebuild regardless, you will find out what the problem is when you open it up.

quick question. is there any possible way to just jack it up and change the rod bearings? my grandpa told me you can just jack it up, pull the pan. and change one rod at a time. turn the crank and move to the next rod. is this possible with these cars? a few peopel actually said you can do it this way.

also the fact that i dont have a garage to work in.

Wow, that's pretty bad sounding. With things that bad I would just do a full rebuild cause the shavens (sp?) will be everywhere and there's no way to get them all without taking it apart. Good luck on things.

Yea, pointless to replace the bearing with the finding of shaving in the oil. And if doing that just to resell car, that's pretty shady. Either sell it cheap saying it needs a rebuild or rebuild it yourself.

But 1800 for a 2g GST that's not a bad price. If it's running.

Ok guys sorry i havent been on lately. the past few days this damn site hasnt been letting me even access it. But i jacked it up. Took the rod bearings out. before i did i noticed they moved up n down as well. but i took the first one out and was shocked. it was paper thing and in shreds. so i had to take pics of new n old. but everyone was shot and shredding. so thats where my metal shavings came from for sure. put it all together with fresh oil ( cleaned all the oil shavings out first) started it up and the rattling stopped. now all that is there is a random squeak like a throw out bearing when rev'ing it like every other rev. If i keep this car Eventually after finding a job i plan on rebuilding. but on other news i found my je pistons and eagle h beams :)

Yea my car isnt turbo'd. just bored over. je pistons eagle rods. megan headers, cold air intake. and i believe cams but im not sure. i matched the numbers on them to some hks cams online but rarely find them. 277 on the exhaust and 264 on the intake?
