Hey guys. Well I have come to a serious crossroads and I decided I would turn to the people who should probably know best. I currently have $10k laying around for me to drop into my car and I am trying to decide if it would be best for me to put that $10k into my already modded GSX (see profile for list of mods) or put the $10k as a down payment on a 2006 Evo MR. *edit* Also let me say first and foremost that I have no problems at all with my GSX except of course for the fact its a DSM so it breaks once a week. So its not like im replacing a problem. *edit*

The main thing is that it is going to be one car or the other. The reason is because if I buy the EVO I am of course going to Mod the hell out of it, and I cant afford to seriously mod 2 cars. So if I buy the EVO the GSX is sold or of course I just keep the GSX, screw the EVO, and drop $10k into it.

I would really like to know what you guys think would be best. Let me give a quick synopsis of my thought pattern. I dont care about the 06 being new and my DSM being old. Hell everything on the DSM is new or would be new anyway (engine, tranny, etc.) However the EVO MR is a DAMN base model car, its not made for luxury or convenience only performance. And of course since I plan to MOD the hell out of either car, im most interested in performance. I do however need to be able to drive the vehicle on a day to day basis. Of course I have a DD, but I want to be able to drive my MOD car anytime I want as well. I am the type to like to get the most performance wise out of my car. I mod them as much as I can as hard as I can as long as I can still drive them regularly. I dont care about how one may look cooler then the other. I realize that of course the EVO MR is a far superior vehicle stock, but how about putting an extra $10k into my already modded GSX (see profile for mods) with that in mind is it that much of a difference even if I were to of course mod my EVO MR as well? I dont care about a car payment. I can afford it easily. One of the main things that just popped into my head is emissions. I live in GA where there are of course emissions. My GSX is ODB I and passes easily even heavily modded, my EVO MR would be ODB II. Would emissions then become a problem for me? Of course I have no problem paying a "tip" to the inspector to "help" my EVO MR pass. Oh and I plan to keep either car I decide to go with until the end of time.

Oh well, guys what do you think? $10k down payment on an 06 EVO MR or $10k into my already modded GSX? Also please actually view the mods in my profile that I already have as they are important factors. Thanks a lot guys. Also please put your reasons for voting the way you do.

If you are having no problems with the gsx, I dont see a need to get rid of it. Just keep it and put some more money into it. No need to blow the full 10g's on the car though

Oh yea, which reminds me. Nope I dont have any problems at all with the GSX except for the fact its a DSM and of course breaks once a week.

Also the $10k is specifically set aside for the car. It's not like im going into rent money or anything. It was saved soley for the purpose of vehicle mods.

Thanks for the response HRNYHG.

Man who puts aside 10k's for their car project? Who actually waits until it reaches 10k's before they start spending? Well anyways you could build a pretty sweet ride with that. I say rebuild the engine with all forged internals, ported/polished everything. oversized valves etc. in the head, Then decide on what turbo setup you want and supporting mods you'll need for that setup. Believe it or not 10,000 will go pretty quick. Just make sure you find good deals and get quality. And hey if you want to split it with me 50-50 I'll even drive to wherever you are and help you build your car. ROFL
Wait a second, I just looked at your profile, you already have the built motor. Well then get that 3065 you've been wanting, ditch the logger and afc and get dsmlink (or equivalent) Then get whatever you need to run it to its potential and have fun.

Do you have any goals for the GSX? I would put the money down on the MR and if you are wanting to make your GSX a track car you cna start to put money into it and still have the evo as a daily driver.

I don't get it - You are running a stage 3 engine on a stock turbo? Just get the turbo you have in your wishlist. I don't see why you need to go to a EVO MR unless you are bored with your Eclipse or tired of putting money into it. Just keep the Eclipse. :thumb:

He said he only wants 1 car, either the EVO or the GSX.

Alright so undo my original post. Look right now you have a choice. Pour 10K's into your gsx and yet keep it streetable. (meaning you're not going to be a 1/4 mile god but at least you should be able to have at least a 11 sec or so car give or take) Look into 50 trim (go with the FP green if you do though) which is supposedly a great street/pump gas turbo. But even with all the technical things you'll need to run this turbo you'll probably have money left over. I'd say make it look great, keep the body stock, get a nice paint job in your favorite car color, take care of all dents and cracks of course. Then you'll be driving a good looking, clean, and fast car. Or buy the evo and be in debt and try to spend money on mods. Which for someone who seems to have the money like you do, shouldn't be a problem.

gsx is paid for right ,the evo will have a hefty down payment but you will still be paying on it , keep the gsx :thumb: buy a n/a car and build a all motor car. this is a terrible thing to decide over evo or large amounts of parts for gsx  i couldnt make that decision

I was in your shoes a while back. I saved about $10k myself for just a new car. At the time, I was waiting for the sti to be released heer in VA. Well, after pondering over it for awhile(4 months) I decided to put it into my talon. Reason was it was paid for and I own it, not the bank. It ended up with new paint, new engine, struts, springs, general maintanence on rolling chassis, wheels, go fast goodies(car was stock at the time so go fast wasnt really fast at all), new tranny, stereo, etc, etc. I feel I made the right decision because I still have a fast dsm and the payment I was going to pick up now goes to my dd. The good part about it is that my dd never breaks and if it did, its covered under warranty. Sometimes I wish I had gotten the sti but then I think, "I could have had 300hp for the $ I spent but then I still would have a car payment. Now I have well over 300 hp, a new grand prix, and my car payment is less so thats more to spend modding my talon"

Realistically, its based on what you really want but be reasonable when you decide. And keep insurance cost in mind before you make the final decision.

if your going to get an evo, id say wait until the evo X comes out, using both the new all aluminum 2.4L "world block" created by hyundi and perfected by mitsubishi and dimler chrysler, and mivec, it is rumored to have over 300 hp on the all new, lighter lancer chassi.... for more info on the block;http://allpar.com/mopar/world-engine.html

but that is the chrysler incarnation, ie what will be used in the new srt4 and such, the evo will be the only car with the mitsubishi incarnation that will be making 300+hp....

as for the year, i believe its either 07 or 08... but who knows....

Yea, I know its crazy I have a damn FULLY built motor and no damn real mods at all. LOL. I just decided to do things backwards.... do the motor first and then add crap on. Odd huu?

Also thanks for all the input guys, but let me say again that I dont mind the car payment at all... nor insurance costs. Believe me I can afford the car payment. Now it is a different matter about putting the money from my would be car payment into my GSX, I can see the benefit in that. I just dont want a car payment or the car not being paid off being a real decision maker. It doesnt matter much to me. But like I said above, using the monthly payment for more mods does make sense.... Thx.

Oh yea.... and its gotta be one car or the other. I know me... it sounds nice and all to just make the GSX a track car and keep the EVO MR stock...... but it wont happen. I will be forced to heavily mod both and I dont want to do that. Remember Modding is a disease.... you can't fight it. Besides, I've already got a DD, a nice Honda Civic still under warranty. .

Put the money towards a new car. You WILL be sorry spending that much on your car.. I have 10,500 in reciepts from my previous tsi. I didn't even get quater of what I had into it, Back out of it. Do I regret it? yes. Did I buy a new car? yeah another 1g and now i have 4grand into this one.. I wish i would just stop modding them and buy a new car. It's just so hard to do and I keep making the wrong choices. Good luck with your choice, Hopefully you choose the right one.....

well if was a matter of which car over the other no matter what, i'd go with the Evo hands down. but the big question is do you want to make paments on the Evo because thats a $30k plus car and 10k is a nice down payment but not enough to pay it off. plus your selling of your dsm which will get some money but still not the remaining 20k. so its all up to your financial situation. i personally would save up the remaining money until i could pay for the Evo outright and then buy it. but thats just my opinion.

Godspeed in whatever decision you make. :dsm:

Get the GSX. If you get the Evo, you'll send your monthly payment in knowing that could've been money spent on mods/girlfriend/whatever you like.

Well I guess one of the main things is this.... ive always loved EVO's but I mean lets say I drop $10k into my already modded GSX and I can run low 11s high 10s (I KNOW it may not, im just sayjing if!) Well is dropping another $5-10k into my evo on top of my down payment gonna run 8s-7s? Doubtful..... That said would it really be worth it? I mean is the EVO MR that superior of a vehicle over a heavily modded GSX?

-Sayajin

The evo is just a superior car all around(MHO).I would definatly get the evo.The gsx is great and i love it,but if you gave me a choice, evo, hands down.If the payment and insurance isn't a problem for you, then voiding the warranty and modding wouldn't be either i asume.

Take a look at what ten grand in a decent investment account does over ten years.

Look at what a car costs when it's ten years old.

So, at least split some of the difference. Buy cars three or four years old, after most of the depreciation's come out of someone else's ass, but while the car's still solid.

No matter how hot the newest car is, next year's will make it look foolish. And with the leaps the industry is making, I think even more so over the next decade than over the last two.

Defiant made a very good point. I bought a 2005 Hyundai Tucson for my wife 2 months ago, it was $22,000. I went back to the dealer to get an idea of how much I can get for it a month after I bought and the same dealership said they'd give me 17k. I was like WTF . In 1 month my car value went down by $5,000 :notgood:

If you have already spent money on building your engine, WHY are you looking at a different car? It would make sense if you wanted to get a 99 GSX or something and put your modded engine in it, but why get a EVO and start from scratch? Do you really want a 4 door? Do you need a 4 door, do you have a family? kids? need space for a baby seat? Do you want the high insurance payments?

If I were you, I put half of that $10,000 in your DSM to get a turbo kit (that's on your wishlist) and other supporting mods and put the other half in a CD or something. :thumb:

well I guess I could give you my .02 of wisdom. But I bet you that you already are leaning one way or the other. No matter how much advice anyone could give you, its human nature to follow your own heart. Just like giving advice about women or relationships, it goes in one ear and out the other. But anyways, here goes my .02. Keep the GSX and spend 2500.00 on it and put the rest of the money into some kind of mutual fund or just anything to start thinking about life after cars. none of us are getting any younger. Like I said...just my .02 worth

Putting 10k into an old DSM seems like a dumb idea unless it is being driven professionally. Also, 5k into an old DSM should be plenty to put the car wherever someone wants it to be. I have a hard time thinking of parts that would add up to 10k if I'm doing the labor myself.

So, to me, it's more like 5k into an old car or 10k into a new one. 10k into a new one is halfway to a used C5 -- which is a C5, but it's still used, and stock. I just can't see (or how) putting much more than 5k into an old DSM. 5k with you doing the labor would get you a hell of a car.

Used Vipers are as low as 30k, by the way. ;)

If it were me....I would take the $10K and put it down on an EVO RS. That keeps your payments down so you have money left over each month to piss away on mods. Now why the RS model...because then you can do what you want to it. Better braking, add a wing later if you want to, Nice Volk wheels....you see where I am going.

After all the problems I have had with my DSM I could not see spending $10K on it over a new car. This would be why I am ditching her for an STI. ;)
