10 minutes to start the car with a cold motor.

I'm wondering if there is anything I can directly check for my car not starting when its cold. If it sits for like 2 hours after running it will pop right off with no idle or problems in general but if I let the car sit overnight so the entire motor cools completely it takes me several several tries to start the car before it finally goes. This morning it took me nearly 10 minutes just to get the car started. Once it would start it would rev to like 1500 and die instantly like 2 or 3 times and then would just begin to work perfectly... Any ideas as to what I could check maybe? Would it be my ISC possibley? When the ISC went bad in my non-turbo it just idled crappy but never had a problem actually starting so I don't really know. Any advice welcomed!

I would definatly get the CTS checked out and then the fuel filter. Although the filter would probably make it not wanna start all the time. CTS will make it not wanna start beccause it won't be injecting the right amount of fuel so it won't run properly even after you get it started. I would start there first though.

dont be as stubborn as this guy. check/change the coolant temp sensor

haha, stubborn? We got him to check and change his coolant temperature after a couple days of convincing.
I'd reccomend checking it too, here's my post on how-to

To check the sensor, check the resistance value of the coolant temperature sensor while its cold (50-80degrees F = 2,200 to 2700 ohms) Then, start up the engine and warm it up until it reaches normal op temp. The resistance should be lower (180 to 200degrees F = 280 to 350 ohms) You can simulate this by removing the coolant sensor and testing it in a pan of heated water. If thats okay, check the circuit for proper volatge. Turn the ignition key on and check for signal voltage it should be approx. 4.5 to 4.9volts

Ok, the CTS thing makes more sense to me since the car is having some temp problems anyways. I just assumed it was a sticky thermostat because the temp will like to creep up pretty hot and then just drop back to normal. The car hasn't been run in nearly 7 months until just recently so I assumed my thermostat was junk from sitting so long. Could that have any effect on the CTS or do you think its the CTS that could have an effect on the thermostat? Thanks alot so far tho.

If the temp creeps up and drops suddenly, that usually means that you have low coolant. Find out why the coolant is low and it might lead you to the problem you have now.

hmmm, ok then. I'm a bit worried now, hopefully its just something that happened during the long and strenuous transmission swap since I only did the second half of the swap(long story). I'm yet to discover everything else that the "mechanic"(as if he really could be considered one) has messed up while he removed my blown transmission. Thanks tho, I'll post back as soon as I get a chance to take a look at the car, probably tomorrow morning.

i had a similar issue with my 91 a couple years back, changed the CTS, still had a problem. For shits and grins, threw in another ECU, problem fixed. after talking to the MT at the shop i worked at, he explained that the ecu wasnt reading the sensor, and for what ever reason always thought the engine was warmed up, so until it actually was somewaht warm, it wouldnt run. just my past esperience and .02. but yeah, not having enough coolant could def cause similar behavior
