i just bought a 97 gsx 5 speed (huray to me) its got a garrett 60 trim turbo and for the first drive, it blew the doors off of my 1970 plymouth duster 340- 4 speed. i was just checking the car over a little closer and i removed the intake to finde that my turbo has so much in/out shaft play that it is hitting the housing, leaving the compressor wheel blades grinded off to the shape of the housing.

where do i get a rebuild kit for this?

is it better just to buy a new turbo?

:beatentodeath:

That just happened to my friend's garret 50 trim, I would suggest getting it rebuilt but make sure you get it done at a reputable shop, a bad rebuild will just waste your time and put your engine in jeopardy.

i have a completly rebuilt 2g 5 spd awd tranny, maybe i should try to trade this for a turbo from someone? u think?

my other problem with just buying a new turbo is that my exaust , manifold and ex. wastegate is all costum. i have no o2 housing my down pipe bolts directly to the turbo with the wastegate dumping to the atmosphere

I don't know of any shops on the east cost, but your best bet would probably be to ship it to a company and have them rebuild it, I'm not positive who would be the best but do some searching and you should be fine.

Send it to majestic trbo in waco texas, they do awesom work. I took an apprenticeship there years ago and they pay a TON of attention to details geared towards performance, and not just a basic rebuild by a diesel truck shop.

well, i took the turbo apart, the wheel at the exaust side is tore up . including the tin oil cup. ill post pics tommorow

Depending on how "tore up" it is, it may be salvageable.

That turbo will use a standard Garrett T3 rebuild kit, which runs about $75. Add to that the cost of the E60 compressor wheel (about $150), now you're at $225. If the turbine is trashed, you'll spend another $200 or so on a turbine....so now you're at $425 WITHOUT labor.

If I were you I'd check into buying a whole new CHRA (Center Housing Rotating Assembly) from Garrett. It will come full assembled....simply bolt on your compressor cover and install it into your exhaust housing.
