haha i love dsms!!!

so i got a call from sean around noon saying my car has some issues and we shouldnt dyno it .

the damn alternator that i put in like 2 weeks ago is dying already, lights are coming on dim inside the cab...

So i hopped bart to pick up my car from fftec, get on the hayward bridge and as im exiting the toll booth the damn lights start coming on dim and my voltage gauge is low!!!
i get to right about where the bridge starts going up and my car decides it doesnt want to rev anymore, the car is on, pedal to the floor, but rpms are dropping! damn there was nowhere to pull over so i was stalled on the uphill of the damn bridge! haha, the caltrans guy had to push me up and over the bridge then towed me to my friends house off 92. So i pulled the alternator while i was waiting for my ride home and here i am now at home posting my story.

So, the talon wont make it to the track tomorrow. Some other issues Sean pointed out with the car may cause me to not make it for the rest of the year (wierd drivetrain noise, Dave you've heard it) so i probably gotta pull my trans and take a look at whats going on, and I need to go through my alternator wiring because its probably melted together from my hot exhaust, last i have to wrap my o2 housing and downpipe to prevent further alternator frying, or relocate the alternator which i might do because it will be away from PS fluid and the hot exhaust.

So, i'll still probably go tomorrow, i might race my 94 altima d/d automatic just to win a trophy in bracket racing hahaa, or i might roll with a friend and videotape. Either way i'll videotape so dave or anyone who wants to bring a camera if you are driving i'll gladly film.

What a day... no dyno, brokedown junk dsm, no racing tomorrow...

haha, ive always liked the rain... i guess thats why i still have this stupid pos money pit that i call a car, but whatever... it shows my loyalty! haha

I will be there and hope this stock trans will hold together. Mid to high 11's is my goal without launching the car hard. I'm still getting used to this twin disc but with the 2g accumulator and slave it is way better. Look for me.

i broke my 2g cas last nite so i spent most of today trying to find a 1g cas.. finally found it and got it wired and running but it's too late to head to the track

It went well, Dave kicked ass as usual. I was pulling 1.9 & 2.0 60ft times trying to be nice to the car. I broke out in the 2nd round with a 11.6 @ 125mph on a 1.8 60ft running out of gas. The gas light was comming on in the top of 3rd and 4th and it started breaking up so I had to short shift it at 6K. I started the night there with over a 1/4 tank and my gas light was on steady as I was leaving to drive home. Next time I will just keep it near full cause you just burn through so much E85 on the boost.

Yeah, that was a fun day!
Although it was agonizing watching Brandon's car break on the launch. He told me that he's using a stock tranny, with a stock center diff so he wasn't going to launch it hard. I was next in line behind him so I had a good view of his run. I heard him rev it at the start and hit the stutterbox pretty hard, then the car jumped off the line and quit ten feet later. He coasts to a stop, then the track workers push the car back out of the way. While I'm watching this I'm thinking, "No Way! Damm dude that sux bad :barf:" I can't help him since I'm next in line.

I'll let Brandon finish his story. :D and leave the rest of you guys with a cliffhanger. :)

My run went well. I just updated my profile, new best time on the 14b! I guess the bigger injectors and the dyno tune at Full Function gave me just enough power to get the job done. FYI the previous record for an AWD DSM with the 14b no nitrous WAS 11.642.

I just barely squeeked by. But I didn't know it when I was at the track. I knew the record was 11.64x, but I didn't know what the 3rd decimal place was, or if there even *was* a 3rd decimal place. Was I tied for the record? Did I beat it? Will Danny text back to Francis and let me know? The suspense was killing me.

its ok dave, it doesn't really matter since your going to crush it with a little custom tstkl j-pipe action going on.

now you can put a newlogics sticker on your car, LOL

yeah, a fmic should obliterate the old record! This level of power opens up a new train of thought. I wonder what's next?

11.448

it would be nice to see a 119 after that number too, but whos really keeping track.

can't you adjust the amount the load effects timing to reduce some of that knock up top? not that it will matter much soon...

Yeah on my 3rd run my car shut off right after the launch. My main power wire came out of the fuse block that runs my amps and fuel pumps. So no fuel no go, I was lucky the wire didn't hit the chassis and blow the main fuse I have under the hood.

Francis never texted me to check the record!!! i would have if i had known. I think he was pissed i didnt go because he wanted me to film his runs, but i had to go fix my car and get it out of my friends driveway!!!

Hey thats better than a shattered trans!!!

when are you guys going again? How many solid runs do you guys get to run on wends? And also do they rent out helmets? I really want to go and do a pulll with this 16g since it will be my first time ever at a track.

Depending on how busy you can get between 4-8 runs in. I don't think they rent helmets but you can go to Roseville Cycle, Cycle gear off of Madison and Date or PCP motorsports off of Florin Rd. and get a helmet that would suffice for under a hundred bucks.

way to make us people who run 16gs and bigger and can only manage 13s :( damn you dave!

i still consider it beating the record, you were faster by, whats that considered.. 1/1000th of a second?

we have to go back to the famous quote from everybody's beloved movie, which needs no introduction..

Dom: "Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning."

:beatentodeath:ROFL LOL

so what are you plans now?

Thanks everyone, I still get a little rush everytime I remember that I did it! OTOH I still can't quite grasp the fact that I ran 11.64 on a 14b. If someone came up to me a couple years ago and said, "I bet you could run an 11.6 on that turbo" I would've laughed!

But somehow I'm sitting here making plans to go faster. :WTF: I have the record, but something tells me there's more in the car. I want to see how far I can push it.

Congratulations Dave! I didn't doubt that you were going to be able to do it. Only wish I could've been there instead of a work meeting.

the make dave go even faster package has been delievered,... operation fmic the 14b has commenced.

just a completely useless update, my car has the follow stuff left to be done:
fluids (oil, coolant, t-case, tranny)
tighten some bolts (sway bar, control arms, turbo oil drain line, turbo water drain line, rear motor mount)
make some brackets (throttle cable, wastegate, coil pack
install exhaust (wideband and downpipe)
install radiator
install oil cooler

Its all really small easy stuff, Im going to try and knock out everything except for the brackets, fluid, and radiator tonight, so tomorrow I can just go pick up some metal and fluids and spark plugs and get the car tuned up.

Dave, if you want to come over tomorrow after work to help me tune, that would be good, but I'd still wait for me to call you just incase something happens to where I decide against taking the car down/finishing it, for whatever reason.

thats all your givin us dave??? gotta give us some more info on why you are going, maybe because there have been some changes to the car?

As always, GOOD LUCK!!! let us know how it goes. Im sure we wont be let down!

Ah crap
my turn to flake.
I got in the car to drive to the track and I noticed the battery volts were low. I let the car idle for a few minutes, and volts kept dropping slowly. I turned on the fans and lights to see if the volts held steady, but they just dropped more. I reved the engine to see if volts came up, but they just dropped a little more. I shut it down when it reached 9.8V and plugged in the battery charger.
