My power transistor recently failed, or at least I think that is what failed based on the symptoms. Driving home one day and all of the sudden I lose what feels like two cylinders at the same time. I pulled over and shut the car off and let it sit for a minute while I run ecmlink on the car to see what it tells me. Start the car back up and idles fine on start up but as soon as I put into gear and put the car under load I get a random misfire again and what feels like the loss of two cylinders at the same time which leads me to believe the 30 year old power transistor is going bad. I am now in the market for a coil on plug set up to get rid of the 30 year aging coil pack system. Car is an early gen 1995 Eagle Talon tsi.
I am currently looking at purchasing the antilag racing coil on plug set up but they are currently delayed on their shipping due to waiting on parts from one of their vendors.
I have found a used antilag racing set up fior a decent price which claims to have brand new denso coils but the problem or at least the difference I see on the item posted for sale is that it appears to only have one deutsch connector plug, whether it is a 4 wire or a 5 wire I am not sure but I noticed on the photos on antilag racing website for their current set up is that it utilizes two deutsch connector plugs for replacement of the power transistor wiring and the coil pack wiring a 2 pin deutsch connector and a 3 pin deutsch connector. I am trying to find a resolve in the difference of the two wiring set ups without having an real instructions to go off for what would require me to do to make this set up work while still being able to delete the power transistor unit while also retaining the tach signal. I am using ecmlink v3 for tuning software so my set up will still use wasted spark.
I have also looked into ohm racings set up for coil on plug but I would rather not spend another $1k on the car to acheive the same goal that the antilad racing setup can do for half the price.
Car has all other supporting mods and am currently in the process of changing from holset hx35 turbo to xona rotor xrc6464s turbo with artec stainless cast manifold as well as FIC 2150 high z injectors, single rewired walbro 450 pump tuning on flexfuel for e85. Looking to run 35-40 psi to touch the 700hp mark. This is a weekend warrior street car that will never see track time. From what I know the antilag setup should be able to accomdate me in my goals without having to break my bank on the ohm racing set up.
I have searched the forums and studied and read the basic denso coil on plug diy walk through but really I am looking for other users experiences and input on the antilag racing set up without having access to their installation instructions. I have reached out the antilag racing to see if I can get their instructions without purchasing their setup but I have yet to hear back from them.
Any help, input, experience, and advice would be greatly appreciated.
