Dang, look at the fire I started! To those of you with positive things to say: Thanks. And to everyone else: I said I didn't care about peoples opinions on COP, I just wanted to show it could be done for dirt cheep.

And as to why I did it: I was bored, buzzed, and it cost less than a new set of plug wires.

the coils are NOT weaker, it's the OEM electronics in our cars that are too weak for COP. you will get a weaker spark if you wire them in series because they are getting less than ideal voltage at the primaries. if you wire them in parallel then you have current draw problems with the power transistor. the right way to do a COP is to use a CDI or ignition amplifier. i have a dynatek with stock coils and wires still, but i can tell there was an improvement, especially with keeping the plugs clean. i can only imagine how the car would be if i got some of those coils.

You are not even close to understanding what is actually wrong with the coil on plug system described in this thread.

As mentioned by some others after me, if you ran each coil individually driven by 4 separate coil outputs, it would be stronger, due to increased coil charge time allowed. Running an inductive waste spark system, there is not enough time to charge the coils enough to make them more effective than the stronger stock coil. The stock coil is stronger, however is only capable of waste spark. The Capacitive discharge solves the problem by increasing the power of the spark in the short time that is available with waste spark. If you do a COP with the proper coils it can still be more powerful than stock stuff, without a CDI.

As far as wiring them parallel vs series, it has nothing to do with power transister and everything to do with basic electronics and path of least resistance. The car only runs properly wired one way.

who said i didn't understand it because of what i said? a cdi does nothing inductive when used with a stock coil. it fires a voltage and the coil instantly sparks, rather than a dwell time waiting for an inductive coil to charge and then fire to collapse. i consider myself almost genius but i can't convey things as such, i have horrible social skills like most really smart people.

The smartest individuals were borderline insane ;)

my friend will make these for about $10-15 and then sell them on egay for $120+
you should look into that.
