I want to test my pcv valve under boost. Is there anyway I can get the turbo to boost by reving the engine under the hood?

I recently blew out my dipstick, I did a leakage test and my intake valves are sticking open a little so that would mean boost is getting in there when it shouldnt be right? Causing excess crankcase pressure.

My valve cover breather works fine, I pulled the pcv valve, I can blow through it easily, I also pulled the hose that goes from the pcv to the intake. I make sure it and both fittings where not clogged.

So, basically i want to have the engine under boost just for a second to see if the pcv blows off excess crankcase pressure. But being as there is boost in the intake that will keep the pcv from opening wont it? So my intake valves sticking open is what is causing excess crankcase pressure?

Sorry..i am always like that. Didnt mean to be a ass in the movie.

As for the down pipe being lose or whatever..i dont know if it will build boost faster..but i can tell you that my exhaust is tighter than tight and still builds boost as fast as in the movie. I think its just normal. All of my friends that have a DSM build boost just as fast the same way.

p8balla,
I dont see why your freaking out. My car builds boost in neutral too and it always has. Everyone i know who owns a turbo dsm builds boost in neutral. Some build 5 pounds others more. I think your car is going to be ok.

I can hit maybe 0.5 psi at 5.5k under wot in neutral, and that is with a 3.5" gm mas for very little intake restriction.

wonder if your guys' thing is something similar to boost creep? ie the wastegate isn't open enough at under such small airflow levels and then when you slam the gas down, there is just enough time to build boost before it can open more.

what type of boost controllers are you guys using?

i thought the video was great. a little dickish, but the guy didn't believe him. i hate people who act like they know, when they don't. whats wrong with saying " i don't know". i want your damm car. i don't care about mad boost in netural. i have bigger problems with mine right now. my hands never get clean!

hey **** i'm still reading the posts.. i know a hell of a lot more about these cars and their engines than you do, i just didnt believe they could build that much boost in neutral, but i have learned..

didnt believe they would build that much? cant wait till i get some vid of me opening up the gate in my driveway:)

A couple days ago I leaned my Super AFR out to around -5%, but the car sputtered around 2500 rpm, and in between shifts would fall to 500 rpm and then rev itself to 1500rpm:confused: So I set all the points back to zero, which is what they were at before.

Now the stock boost gauge is reading boost in between shifts and also when I let off the gas when it's in gear!! My after market boost gauge is reading 20 in of hg at the same time but the car is sputtering when I let off the gas or go to shift and when I get back on the gas it leaps forward almost like I revved it a little and dumped it. Today it started stalling in between shifts. I know I'm running rich because of the 550's, my EGT's are fine, and it idles at 15 in of hg. Would a vacuum leak cause this?

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is??

You can use the stock boost gauge as sort of an airflow meter, as measured at the MAF. If it doesn't decrease when you shift, and in neutral/idle, then you either have a large boost leak, or your AFC settings are wrong.

I set all the settings back to what they were right awayu, before the boost problem started. I turned the boost down from 15 to 13 that seemed to fix it for now, but it wasn't happening all the time to begin with. I also tightened all the hose clamps on the intercooler pipes, and intake.
It was weird that the stock gauge was reading boost while the aftermarket gauge read 20in of hg at the same time. I guess I'll just have to run rich until I get a Pocketlogger or find a shop to tune it

ok just installed my ported and polished big 16g turbo (wahoo!), but now that i have everything together, it builds boost in neutral!!!!!

At WOT, my boost gauge reads 0 psi from 1k-4.5k rpms, and then it shoots to 5psi after that, and when i get close to redline, it reaches whatever psi i have my manual boost controller set at. Now, i dont nesciscarily care that i build boost in neutral, but i am just dont understand why. Could it be that my factory bov is crap? IM LOST!

thanks,
mike

What are you complaining about? I bought a msd dis2 so I can build boost on the line. I highly doubt that you are building full boost though. You build boost dependent on the engine load. On my car, mbc set at 20psi on a ported big 16g, I couldn't build more than 5 psi until I had some porting done and now I get ~10 psi in neutral at 5000 rpm on the stutterbox.

that turbo was the one that you just sold me, hahaha. hey john! ya got any idea why its building boost in neutral w/o a dis2???? there isnt really any load on the engine though!

I find it highly irregular that someone would be building boost, much more 5-full psi in neutral. he didnt stste that he had a stutterbox. The exact point of a stutterbox would be to build boost in neutrall:rolleyes: . So yes, he should be complaing about something going irregular.:laser:

Hmm...the turbo was ported really good then by mike. I only was able to build 5 psi before and more afterward. He ported the whole turbo and the exhaust side alot if you remember looking. That is probly why. Damn, If I knew that, I wouldn't have needed the msd yet :D . Guess the only difference is that I can hold it until I launch though. That big 16g must spool really quick after he posrted it.

Sounds like your boost gauge is at fault. I would check that before you go accusing the turbo.

Since this is a new install, I would also leak test the intake.

yah i am gonna do that soon, i think there is a leak somwhere, b/c im getting like 10-15 average vacume

Is there a way to get boost in neutral? I wanna be able to show ppl the BOV woosh with having to drive past them. How does the car not get boost when the rpms are up?

Thanks I'll try that.

This gets me thinking tho, Why do you need to be near red line to get boost in neutral?

Is there some solenoid or something to prevent boost when not in gear?

could it be dissabled...
