I want to test my pcv valve under boost. Is there anyway I can get the turbo to boost by reving the engine under the hood?

I recently blew out my dipstick, I did a leakage test and my intake valves are sticking open a little so that would mean boost is getting in there when it shouldnt be right? Causing excess crankcase pressure.

My valve cover breather works fine, I pulled the pcv valve, I can blow through it easily, I also pulled the hose that goes from the pcv to the intake. I make sure it and both fittings where not clogged.

So, basically i want to have the engine under boost just for a second to see if the pcv blows off excess crankcase pressure. But being as there is boost in the intake that will keep the pcv from opening wont it? So my intake valves sticking open is what is causing excess crankcase pressure?

I wonder how many of these people "building boost" are getting that from the stock gauge
Why pulling the PVC manifold hose off and checking to see if the valve leaks with engine off is such a big problem. If your really looking for a rube goldburg method go buy a long length of hose, pull the pvc off the valve cover, connect the hose to the manifold, run it back into the car, attach pvc to the end of the hose and drive around :)
I just check them with the air compressor, the aftermarket ones tend to leak new, mitsubishi one tend to leak over time. I guess that's why mitsubishi was changing them every major service visit. I always get the old parts back and they were always bad.

i woke up this morning, went out to my car, started it, and it was making a kind of funny hissing/small exhaust leak type noise. i drove it to where i was going and it made the noise the whole way there. i was on my way home, and i got stopped at a light and i gave it a pretty hard rev and the boost built to like 15 psi! i can still get on it and it still builds boost like normal, and the wastegate still opens like normal, but it now makes a funny noise and builds mad boost in neutral. i got home, stood in front of my car and revved it, and saw my i/c hose swell. i never thought id stand in front of a car and see that. what could the problem be?

 Yea i believe he said ther was a problem.
"stood in front of my car and revved it, and saw my i/c hose swell" I dont know what the problem could be, maybe something stuck inside of the ic or it is clogged with something. Pull it off make sure there are no cracks in it or anything and that it is clear.

would you guys like to come to my house to see my boost gauge read 15 psi while you watch through the window? my car is(was) building boost in neutral. i discovered that the bolts on my dp were very loose and that was allowing air to escape. i tightened them and the problem was gone. please dont assure me that my car was/wasnt doing something.

actually ya i would like to come see your car build boost in neutral.. maybe you can get a video tape together to show us because its not possible unless you use a stutter box which puts the engine under a load.. i'm not trying to be a dick about it, i'm just telling you how it is.

I can build boost in neutral. I would post a video too but i do not have access to any video equiptment.

i thought the same thing you guys do. i think i will get a tape tp prove it if i can find someone with a digital video cam. and i was wrong, its still doing it, but the exhaust leak is gone. i can open up the gatewhile im standing in front of the car(i never knew it was that loud, damn). i dont like it because it could be a problem. i dont have any clutch burning smells and the car will roll freely in 1st with the clutch in, so it isnt that.

When your building boost are you idling or revving? Also this may sound stupid but did you check your BOV valve? Are you using an aftermarket boost gauge or the factory jobber?

My mod list:

HKS Turbo Timer, Magnecor 8.5mm Plug wires, NGK bpr7es, Symborski shifter kit, 3" mandrel bent turbo back exhaust, test pipe, 1g K&N, Autometer dual gauge pillar, Autometer Ultralite 30-0-30 boost gauge and Ultralite 1600 deg. EGT gauge, Hallman MBC @ 16PSI, HKS SSQV BOV, Walbro 190lph fuel pump, Ported/Clipped 16g port matched to a Ported Exhaust Manifold, Manifold mounted Turbonetics Deltagate MKII

bov works fine

Thats exactly why you were making boost in neutral. If the downpipe was loose , it was allowing more volume of air to pass thru the turbo. I've seen cars at the track build boost in neutral , but they usually don't even have an exhaust system , or a very large one , with no cat.
A side effect of this is you lose bottom end torque , which is dependant on VELOCITY , but you would gain top end , which is subject to VOLUME
Next time you go to the track , loosen the downpipe again. You''ll prolly pick up a few 10 th's:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

I have no idea what your mods are:confused: but something else may be loose in the exhaust system:talon: :talon:
