WRX style intercoolerunder hood???

Thats about all youd pick up is the look. The placement of a intercooler on a WRX is actually a terrible design. My guess is the guys at subaru did it mostly for the marketing of the "functional" hood scoop. Almost all serious wrx tuners convert to a front mount design.

The temps above your engine are going to be hotter than in the front of the car so it will hurt your cooling efficiency.. not to mention now you have a intercooler in the way of getting at your motor. That and if you ask me a nice front mount looks better than any hood scoop.

It's actually a fairly efficient location. For one, while it is right in the hot engine compartment, it has ambient air being forced through it. Secondly, the WRX has about 1.5 feet of ic piping. Shortroute what?

The major downside to it is that you can't fit a very large core.

Or maybe b/c for the WRC a top mount might help so you dont hit rocks, trees, ext with it and can not have a leak.

Horrible idea to say the least in a dsm. Even if 80* of air is flowing into the core you still have 100*+ of engine heat baking the shit out of the intercooler under it.
Talk about heat soak. OMG

my roomate has a wrx and 80 percent of them go to front mounts because they say they work better.............so i wouldsay stick with the front mount..because cooling is better.....the chance to go with bigger cores is better......and working on your engine wont be a hassle............if you want the ''hood scoop'' look just throw in a hood vent

:talon: Monty :talon:

Yeah, because it's not crowded enough as it is under there
