So i replaced my clutch on a 95 gs, it works fine and all that, I can shift into all my gears (1,2,3,4,5) but i cant shift into reverse, it was working before i removed the transmission. It did go into reverse the first time i drove it again and form there never again. As i mentioned my transmission was working before all of this so i dont think it is broken, as far as im concerned my shifter cables are in the right place, I just dont know why it cannot engage into Reverse, any thoughts on what the problem could be?

Also, Im kinda new to all this forum thing so let me know if im not posting it into the right forum/channel or whatever, Thank You. :dsm:

The reverse usually gets finicky as these transmissions wear out. I've seen many that grind and one that even popped out. Reverse is a synchronized gear in these transmissions, and despite what some believe the reverse synchro can wear quicker than say 3-5. It all just depends how the car has been used in it's lifetime. I've seen flawless reverse synchros and I've seen them totally shot.

Try this. Start slipping the clutch as you pull the shifter into reverse. That will usually engage on worn transmissions. If it still doesn't engage, there's a problem with the shifter/cables/levers or something is broken internally.

Update, I checked the cables and they were indeed wrong, they were switched, I fixed them, also when disassembling the center console and all that (I was trying to take the cables out to check them outside the car) I found that it seems to be the TCM or a transaxle control module, I’m pretty sure this car used to be an automatic and got a manual swap before I bought it. Now this module is not bolted into nothing is just sitting there on the floor (on top of the shifting cables so it’s putting a lot of pressure) I tried moving it to clear the cables and all of gears engaged properly so this module is putting unnecessary pressure into them. My question here is because I don’t have an auto transmission anymore can I just delete that module? Or would it affect my car?

This is a diagram that I found on the Haynes repair manual and it looks just like the box im taking about (8)
