So I have a manual 2g Eclipse GST that I have swapped a 6-bolt motor into. For months I have been battling issues with the wiring. The engine harness was already pretty hacked to pieces and the chassis harness came from an unknown automatic eclipse. I'm pretty tired of trying to fix the electrical issues with the car so I'm deciding on purchasing brand new harnesses. My question is: If I install the new harnesses will that simply fix the electrical problems with the car? Also, would I need to buy the harnesses for a 2g or 1g eclipse?

Additional info: At the moment the car has an ECU from an evo. I plan on replacing it with a 1g ECU.

You would want the harnesses for a 2G. But where are you going to find the brand new harness, I've heard they are hard to find? And AFAIK, the aftermarket guys haven't stepped in with one yet.

New harnesses could fix the problem. But there is no guarantee, it could also be that there was a problem with the installation, or that they damaged some of the modules or sensors.

Have you tried to track down the various problems?

Used or new, another harness will probably make a few nicer differences. We run a 2G harness in a 2G Talon that has a 6-bolt swap and went from auto to manual. In addition, we use a 2G ecu. The ecu is looking for signals from engine sensors and can share them with the chassis/gauges of the car. Since the car is a 2G, I can tell you that a 2G harness will work along with a 2G ecu.

You will have unused wires in the engine bay without the automatic. Even more wires if you have eliminated any emissions, cruise, A/C, etc. Until you are positive which connections are correct, zip tie the extra harness connectors under the battery. You can always strip them out later.

Use a 2g harness and a 2g ECU, If you have a 95/96 MT, use a 95/96 harness MT,. if it's a 97/98MT, use a 97/98 MT harness,
1g harness will not work with your 2g, (it will work but will have to do more modifications then you all ready trying to do).

You can use any year 95/99 harness in your car with some modifications to the harness, but if you are having a hard time trying to make that harness work in your car, I would highly recommend to use a harness of the same year of your car along with the ECU.

Thank you for all your replies. Just to clarify, do I need both the engine harness and the harness in the dash to be the same year as the car and ECU? Does it make a difference that the car has a 6-bolt in it?

NO, you don't need the dash harness, they will work with almost all the years.
Just keep away from a Talon harness which they are lightly different then the eclipse.

About the engine,

As stated some one else before, the engine doesn't matter if it's a 6 bolt, 7 bolt, 2.4 etc etc., All what you have to focus is the year, MT (if yours is MT) and to be a Turbo, rather then that don't worry about anything else.

I wouldn't mind taking that EVO ECU off your hands when you get a new one!
