will using an OEM TOB instead of the other NSX TOB from Exedy void warranty?

Hey,
As the title states, will using the OEM nsk TOB instead of the one given with the clutch kit void the warranty? I've read the warranty section of exedy but just want to see if anyone have asked for another kit before, etc.

For some reason I remember somebody saying the OEM clutch was made by Exedy therefore their tob could be a good piece.

I ordered the OEM one and it looks different from the one that came with the kit. It's the same brand but the OEM is smaller. So if I were to send in the clutch for defected testings, would the OEM TOB i ordered be ok or should I send it in with the TOB it came with?

Almost all aftermarket manufactures have switched to a plastic sleeved TOB. That was one of the biggest issues before is they would send a crappy TOB that had a steel sleeve that would eat in to the TOB sleeve of the trans and damage it. The last ACT I installed came with a good TOB. If it has a steel sleeve then don't use it.

I know that the OEM with the plastic sleeve is better and that was why I bought it instead of using the one with the metal sleeve. The shop I brought it to said the clutch is defected after installing it one with the OEM TOB... So, does anyone know if they would even consider testing it if I used an OEM which I bought separately, or would the warranty be automatically be voided because of doing that?

I doubt the clutch is bad if its brand new. Chances are you need to adjust the clutch pedal.

There is also no way for them to tell if you used their TOB or an OEM. Remember too, your problem might lay in the slave or master. It is always best to put a new slave and master in when ever you do a clutch!

That's what I'm saying too. But they "Claim" it is etc.. so I'll let them get it tested just so they'll be happy bc if not defected, then they will have to replace it for me for installing it wrong in the first place.

I would be largely surprised if they[Exedy] even asked you to send in the TOB, either way using a part that was designed for your car, by the designers of your car is not going to be blowing any warranties.
If a shop tried to feed me that line.. that somehow when they installed my clutch with an OEM release bearing that THAT was the reason nothing works... just wow.

p.s. what's this nsx talk all about?

I meant to say NSK :aha: But that's how I feel as well. Just wanting to be 100% sure it won't automatically void exedy's clutch warranties for doing that. Had anyone sent in a clutch for defected reasons before and used the OEM TOB?

My biggest peeve about the typical OEM TOB's is the contact surface compared to an actual Mitsubishi. They are tiny, too far inward, and nearly flat. Mitsubishi TOB's contact surface is rounded and much larger. Here is a pic of the two compared. The red line shows the actual contact surface of the OEM bearing. Mitsu's is obvious.

Not to mention their reputation for premature failure. Mitsubishi TOB's have gone into the 100-thousands without issue, even on aftermarket clutches. In fact, most aftermarket clutch suppliers recommend the use of a Mitsu TOB, even if the clutch kit includes an OEM one. So any shop saying a Mitsubishi TOB would cause issues is obviously inexperienced or trying to BS you. Either way I wouldn't trust them with my car.

Did they check your flywheel's step height? I could see a shop skipping this step, then trying to pass the blame onto someone else when it does not work.

WES: Yes. They Mits OEM is so much better with so much surface area when comparing the two. They are not saying that is the reason, but I was jw for my sake towards the "possible" warranty on my part with Exedy.

How can I tell? It has been resurfaced, but that's all I know about flywheels...
