Will this exhaust setup fit?

Hi all i just ordered a cx racing downpipe off of ebay. It is 3 inches and eliminates the cat. It does not neck down at the end of the downpipe. I also purchased an ebay catback exhaust system. In the system there is a piece that allows it to fit to the stock system. It is a flanged setup that necks down from the rest of the 3 inch exhaust. It looks to only be an inch or two long. My question is will i be able to fit the downpipe to the catback without the need for that neckdown expansion piece? It looks like it should connect no problem, but will this two inches make a big difference with the fitment of the exhaust on the car?

You need to check it. I will tell you that 2 inches, extra or short on the exhaust can be a nightmare. You will have to tweak some things but I don't think anyone will say yes or no that it will fit. You will just have to try it and see but like I said, you might need to fabricate or tweak it somehow.

on the contrary, i know exactly what im going to get, im just wondering if it would connect together. The normal cat back has a 2 inch fitting that goes on to it to connect to the factory cat. Since my downpipe eliminates the cat im wondering if it will be long enough thats all

i got the exhaust in today, cx racing 3" downpipe (which by the way does not go down to 2.5" to connect to turbo like they listed, at least for my 1g, it is full 3" all the way) i got the n1 knock off exhaust, full 3" (with reducer to connect to stock cat like yours). the quality of both the peices is awesome!! stainless exhaust, thick materials, good welds, nice gaskets and fit under the car. i got my catback from Miragepower2008. i paid about $250.00 for both shipped!!.

Now the negative -- which isn't that bad so don't worry -- the peice they give you (the spacer/reducer to go to your cat) if you are not running your cat, there is not enough "tweaking" you can do to make the exhaust just bolt up. the angle to the flanges are different, meaning at different angles, or "cocked" differently without the reducer attached (you should be able to see this in the picture on ebay, and i questioned this when buying, thank god i did not get a test pipe, as that would not have worked either). MAKE YOUR OWN ADAPTER AS I DID. i had the parts store send down 2 3" flanges and a section of 3" pipe. i bolted the flanges up to the exuaust and mocked up and welded my own test pipe! whala! it worked great!! The exhaust sounds awesome!! Hella Boost creep!!, now all i need to do is mount my FMIC, MHI 16g, my 255hp, and vrooom!

how long was the 3inch exhaust pipe you ordered from the parts store?

also was there a fitting for the rear o2 sensor already or do you have to tap one into the exhaust

i didn't measure it, i just held it up to the car and marked it, no rear o/2 sensor bung, but remember my vehicle is pre OBD2 so there is no rear sensor. i would assume yours would come with it, but you never know with cheap items, if you can't weld dude, i would just take it up to exhaust shop, they will not charge much for it.

see the problem is that if i take it to the exhaust shop they will either not work on it or make me get a cat. I think all oregon exhaust shops have to make sure there is a cat on the car for them to work on it

easy fix, do not take your car to the shop, put all the exhaust on the car, buy a 3" pipe and 2 flanges, measure and cut the pipe, use a permenant (spelled right?) marker and mark all the peices together, as in make some marks on the pipe and flanges where they need to be to lined up to put together, take the pipe to the exhaust shop and have them just weld it up for you, take the new peice home and bolt it in! (thats what a friend of mine did).

ya mine was 300 shipped so it sounded like a good deal, and i think thats what im gonna do is do that, where do you think i can get the two flanges and section of 3 inch pipe at? Would autozone have them?

plus there isnt any turboback exhaust on ebay right now for GSX or tsi awd's. Believe me i tried to order the ssautochrome 3 inch turbo back but they are out of stock for 45 days

I had to make my own test pipe too... same kit... the only thing I've noticed is that whatever material they used to do the welding is not rust proof, but It wouldn't be hard to re-weld it if they come loose!

i got my section of 3" pipe and flanges from napa, but i'm sure any autoparts store carries it, i know advanced autoparts has that stuff also

drive down to eugene or springfield......there is no emissions laws here
