will a GM MAF Trans. work on a 1.8?

.........will a GM MAF Trans. work on a 1.8. I would like to get rid of my stock MAF, everyone knows how much of a pain in the ass they can be and how easy they go out.
So i have been looking into a MAF and didt see anything that says that it has to go one type of motor.
can any one shed some light on this?
