Will a 2g GM MAF Translator really work on a 1g?

Hey guys. Yes I know this sounds like a stupid ass question. I mean come on. It says 2g for a reason, but here is my sitaution. I have a friend who blew up his engine and is therefore parting out his car. He has/had a 90 GST and was using a 2G GM Translator in his car. I am thinking about buying it from him since he is selling it to me for a VERY good price. I just want to make sure that it will really work in my 90 GSX? Like I said, I know it sounds stupid, but since he was doing it, it made me wonder. Thanks a lot guys.

while it will work, i've heard that there are small issues with using them like this. a member on dsmtalk had a 2g on his since he was previously using a 2g mas and he had troubles getting it tuned right, all those troubles went away when he got the 1g version.

One more quick question.... can I keep the stock 1G BOV on there for a while and still run the GM MAF setup?

yep! keep that 1g bov. If you crush it, it will hold around ~28psi

One more question. I did some searching but I kept getting conflicting answers.

I am going to be obviously running the GM MAF, and I want to run a blow thru setup (please forgive the ricer in me... that IS NOT the reason I went GM tho. I promise :thumb: ) So I know I need to put the MAF after the BOV. I of course know that I will need a new intake pipe that is the correct size and set up to have the MAF after the BOV. I am not sure however, if I need any other new pipes? Some poeple say that you need new upper IC pipes (im still running the stock SMC) some poeple say you dont need these pipes. Do I need new pipes or do I not need them? Also is there any other pipes I will need? Thanks a lot guys.

dejon tool makes an entire setup for this exact thing, just let them know what you need to have done.

Well you need a new pipe to go from filter to turbo (so theres no MAS), then a new UIP (from IC to TB), weld a flange in for the BOV, and get whatever couplers you need to fit the MAF on it. Or you could just buy the dejon tool like mavisky said ;)
