will a DEAD Alternator and an ALmost dead battery make my car run like shit?

well my car ran AWESWOME all day and the last 20mins it went to shit

my lights dimmed to nothing and my car started to misfire and backfire apon take off (think it was a rich backfire) and my idle would jump up and down..

well i charged my dead battery and started it up it idled a bit high but no fluctuation, i believe when it is warm it will only fluctuate..

anyways i unplugged the negative terminal on the battery and the car died right then! so that rules out a shitty alternator..

but my question is that will the low power level cause my car to run like shit?

hell yes it would. check your 80 amp alternator fuse, mine was blown and it wouldnt charge my battery. The car would just get progressively worse as you loose voltage. the more you floor it, the more curren the car draws, and anything less than 12v and your car starts to sputter at high rpms and pop and cut and all that shit, it happens to me alot!

also check your alternator. I just replaced mine w/ a lifetime rebuilt one. now tonight, the data logger starts going mad! it contstantly jumps from 14v. to 12v and if I hit the alternator w/ a big stick it starts working again, for a sec. then back to 12v. Good thing i got this lifetime replacement alternator!

yea i had the alternator off within 10mins im taking it to murrays this second to replace! woot!

ok i got someone to help figure the specifics of why it would make it run like shit.. simply a weak spark from low voltage would result in a rich backfire!
